Start with constraints

A generic list comes from a generic request. Tell it the dates, the number of people, the budget, the neighbourhood, how much walking you want, and what you do not want. The more specific the brief, the less generic the plan.

Ask for a real itinerary

Ask for morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner, and the travel time between them. Ask for one free afternoon. A plan with no slack is a plan that falls apart on the first delayed train.

Ask for a budget and a rain plan

Ask for a table with flights, stay, food, local transport, activities, and a buffer. Ask what the prices assume, and whether they are per person. Ask for an indoor alternative for the day it rains.

Check before you book

• Opening hours and closing days on the official site.
• Whether a museum or attraction needs a timed ticket.
• The real hotel price with taxes and fees.
• Travel time at the hour you will actually travel.
• Visa, passport, and entry rules for your passport.
