URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/study Swirl turns your notes into flashcards, quizzes you before the exam, and explains the step you missed. It remembers your subjects and the parts you find hard, so the next session starts where the last one ended. - Explains the step you missed, not just the answer. - Turns notes into flashcards and practice questions. - Quizzes you before the exam, one question at a time. - Remembers your subjects, deadlines, and weak spots. Examples: - Biology in two weeks: Upload the chapter, get a one-page summary, then ten practice questions that get harder as you go. - History essay at 11pm: Turn a pile of notes into an outline with a thesis, three arguments, and the evidence for each one. - Maths homework: Get the working explained line by line, then a similar problem to try on your own. ### Will it just do my homework? No. It explains the step, gives you practice, and checks your work. You still have to do the thinking. That is the point. ### Can it remember my syllabus? Yes. Tell it your subjects, exam dates, and the topics you find hard. It keeps them and brings them back when you ask. ### Does it work in my language? Yes. You can study in the language you are taught in, and ask for an explanation in another language when you need one. ### School help for students and parents. URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/school Swirl helps with the school day around the homework: the lesson you didn't follow, the revision plan, the email to the teacher, the form you have to sign. It remembers the subjects, the deadlines, and the people involved. - Homework help that explains instead of answering. - Revision plans that fit the week you actually have. - Emails to teachers, in your voice. - Short summaries for parents who want to keep up. Examples: - The science lesson made no sense: Paste the notes and ask for the same idea in three ways, with an example from everyday life. - Two weeks until exams: Turn the subject list into a day-by-day revision plan with breaks and practice questions. - Email the teacher: Draft a short, polite message about a deadline, a missed class, or a grade question. ### Is this for students or parents? Both. Students use it to understand the work. Parents use it to keep up and help without taking over. ### What age is it for? Swirl accounts are for ages 13 and over. For younger students, a parent or guardian should set up and supervise the account. ### Can it contact my school? No. It can draft an email or a message, but you send it. It does not log in to your school portal. ### AI for kids, with a grown-up in charge. URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/kids Swirl can be a patient reading partner, a story machine, and a homework explainer for your child. A parent or guardian sets up the account, keeps an eye on the conversation, and decides what memory is allowed. Swirl accounts are for ages 13 and over. - Bedtime stories with their name in them. - Why questions, answered at their level. - Reading practice without judgment. - Homework help that explains, with a parent nearby. Examples: - A story about a brave turtle: Pick the characters, the place, and the lesson. Get a five-minute bedtime story you can read together. - Why is the sky blue?: A short answer for a six-year-old, then a longer one for you, then a question to ask them back. - Reading practice: Paste a page, ask for gentle questions, and let the child explain the story in their own words. ### Is Swirl safe for my child? No AI is a babysitter. Swirl is for ages 13 and over; a parent should set up and supervise younger students. Memory can be turned off, and you can delete what it knows. ### Will it collect my child's data? The privacy policy explains what is stored. A parent can turn memory off and delete the account. Do not share personal details in any chat. ### Can it do the homework for them? It can explain and practice. The learning happens when the child does the work. Ask it to quiz them, not to answer for them. ### AI for the stuff you have to do anyway. URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/daily-life Swirl helps with the admin of being a person: the email you keep putting off, the letter from the insurance company, the week's meals, the trip you need to book, the text that looks like a scam. - Email replies that sound like you. - Explain a letter in plain language. - Meal plans and shopping lists. - Trip plans with a budget. - Scam checks before you click. Examples: - The email you keep avoiding: Paste the thread, say what you want to happen, and get a short reply you can send. - What does this letter mean?: Photograph or paste the letter. Get the deadline, the ask, and the next step, in plain words. - A week of dinners: Tell it the budget, the people, and what is already in the fridge. Get a plan and a shopping list. ### Can it read my email? If you connect Gmail, yes, with your permission. You can disconnect at any time. ### Is my data private? Your memory is visible and editable, and you can delete it. We do not train on your chats. ### Can it pay my bills? No. It can explain a bill and draft a message, but you make the payment. ### AI for the fun stuff. URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/fun Not every chat has to be productive. Swirl can write a bedtime story, invent a game for a long car ride, make a picture, plan a themed party, or argue about the best pizza topping. - Stories with your people in them. - Games for a rainy afternoon. - Pictures you can keep editing. - Party themes, playlists, and trivia. - No judgment for the silly questions. Examples: - A story about my cat: Give it the cat's name and a bad habit. Get a short story where the cat saves the day. - A game for two kids in a car: Ask for a twenty-minute game with no screens, no money, and no tears. - A birthday invitation: Pick a theme, write the wording, and make a picture that matches. ### Can it make images? Yes, on paid plans. Ask for a picture and keep changing it in the same chat. ### Can it write a story for my child? Yes. Tell it the age, the characters, and the lesson you want. A parent should read it first. ### Is it okay to use for fun? Yes. Not every conversation has to be work. Some of the best ones are not. ### One AI for your whole life. URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/everything Swirl is the AI that remembers you. It helps with the exam, the email, the trip, the letter, the story, and the silly question. Several leading AIs in one place, one memory, and apps for the job in front of you. - Study, school, daily life, and fun. - Memory that carries across chats. - Several leading AIs in one place. - Apps for the job in front of you. - Five free messages, no card. Examples: - Study for a biology exam: Notes in, flashcards out, then a quiz that adapts to what you get wrong. - Plan a trip to Cartagena: A budget, a neighbourhood, food, and a packing list that fits the weather. - Explain this letter: The deadline, the ask, and the next step, in plain language. - Write a bedtime story: A short story with your child's name, their favourite animal, and a gentle lesson. ### What is Swirl? No. You type what you need, the way you would text a friend. There is nothing to install. ### How much does it cost? Free to start with five messages and no card. Paid plans start at $9 a month, and annual billing is cheaper. ## In your language ### Una IA para toda tu vida. URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/es/para-todo Swirl es la IA que se acuerda de ti. Your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. If you subscribed through the iPhone or Android app, cancel in the App Store or Google Play instead. ## On the web Go to Settings, open Billing, and choose Cancel plan. The confirmation screen shows the date your access ends. You can keep using the plan until that date. ## On iPhone or Android If you started the subscription inside the app, the payment belongs to the app store. Cancel it in your Apple ID subscriptions or in Google Play subscriptions. Cancelling in the app store is the only way to stop that charge. ## What happens after you cancel - You keep access until the end of the paid period. - The plan does not renew after that date. - Your chats and documents stay in your account unless you delete them. - You can subscribe again later, at the price shown at that time. ## If you cannot find the cancel button Check that you are signed in to the account that owns the subscription. If the plan was bought on another account or through an app store, the cancel control will not appear here. Email support@swirlai.app with the receipt and we will point you to the right place. ### How refunds work URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/refunds Email support@swirlai.app with the receipt and the reason. Refunds follow the payment processor's policy for the charge. Cancelling stops the next renewal, but it does not automatically refund the period you are in. ## Cancelling is not a refund Cancelling stops the next charge and leaves the current paid period in place. A refund reverses a charge that already happened. If you want both, cancel first and then ask for the refund. ## What to include - The receipt or payment ID from the invoice email. - The account email. - The date and amount of the charge. - What went wrong, in one or two sentences. ## App store purchases Charges from the iPhone or Android app are refunded by Apple or Google, not by us. Use the report a problem flow in the App Store or Google Play. We cannot refund a charge we did not process. ## How long it takes Approved refunds are sent back to the original payment method. The processor usually shows the credit within five to ten business days, depending on the bank. ### What happens when your credits run out URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/credits-run-out When your Usage balance reaches zero, paid models stop until you add credits. You can buy a top-up or move to a larger plan. Free messages are separate from the paid balance and do not refill a paid plan. ## What credits pay for Credits are the usage unit for model calls, search, and image generation. Every plan includes a monthly allowance. Heavier models and longer conversations use more credits than short ones. ## At zero - Paid model calls are blocked with an upgrade or top-up prompt. - Your chats, documents, and memory are not deleted. - A top-up adds credits without changing your plan. - An upgrade adds credits and may raise your daily limits. ## Top-up or upgrade A top-up is the smaller move. It is for finishing the month on the plan you already have. An upgrade is the better deal if you are running out every month, because the larger plan includes more credits for the price. ## Why usage varies A short question to a fast model costs little. A long thread with a heavy model, a file, and a search costs more. The Usage page shows what you have used and what is left. ### How memory works in Swirl URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/how-memory-works Memory stores facts and context from your conversations and applies the relevant parts in a new chat. You can inspect, edit, delete, or disable it in Settings. Memory follows your account across devices. ## What it stores Two kinds of things. Durable facts, such as your role, the tools you use, and how you like answers. And working context, such as a project, a decision, or something still open. History is the transcript. Memory is the distilled version that is already in play before you type. ## When it is applied At the start of a new conversation, Swirl retrieves the memories that fit the current turn. It does not paste everything it has ever seen into every prompt. Relevance beats recency. ## What you can do with it - Read the list of memories on the Memory settings page. - Edit one entry when it is wrong. - Delete one entry without wiping the rest. - Turn memory off for a sensitive conversation. ## Does it train a model? No. Memory is stored so the product can answer you, not to train a foundation model. The privacy page lists the processors that handle the data. ### How to delete a memory URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/delete-a-memory Open Settings, then Memory. Find the entry and choose Delete. You can also turn memory off for the account. Deleting a memory does not delete the chat transcript it came from. ## Delete one entry Open the Memory page in Settings. Each entry has its own delete control. The change applies to new conversations immediately. Existing chats keep their transcript. ## Turn memory off The same page has a master switch. Off means no memory is applied to new conversations. You can turn it back on later. Turning it off does not delete the entries already stored. ## Delete the chat instead Deleting a chat removes the transcript, not the memory distilled from it. If you want both gone, delete the memory entry as well. If you want the whole account gone, see the account deletion page. ## Why a memory can be wrong A model can generalise from one remark. That is why the list is editable. Correcting one entry is faster than explaining yourself again in every new chat. ### How to export your data URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/export-your-data Open Settings, then Data, and choose Export. You get a copy of your conversations, documents, and memory. If the export fails or the file is incomplete, email support@swirlai.app from the account address. ## What is included - Chat transcripts and thread titles. - Documents and visualizations you created. - Memory entries. - Account details needed to identify the export. ## Before you export - Sign in to the account that owns the data. - Check that you have access to the email on the account. - If the account is large, request the export before you need it. ## What is not included Payment card details, because the processor holds them. Other people's shared links. Internal model routing data. ## What the file looks like You get a downloadable archive. The app shows the exact format and the download link when the export is ready. Keep the file somewhere private; it contains your conversations, documents, and memory. ## If you only need one document You do not have to export the whole account. Open the document in its thread and use the document export or copy action. That is faster and keeps the rest of the account out of the file. ## If the export fails Large accounts can take a few minutes. If the file does not arrive, try once more, then email support with the account address and the time you requested it. Do not send your password or a full card number. ## After you export Store the archive somewhere you control, and delete it when you no longer need it. An export is a copy, not a backup service; it will not update when you change something in Swirl. ### How to delete your account URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/delete-your-account Cancel your subscription first, then open Settings, Account, and choose Delete account. Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription bought through the iPhone or Android app store. ## Cancel first An active subscription is a separate contract from the account. Cancel it in Billing, or in the app store if that is where you bought it. Deleting the account while a subscription is active can leave the charge running. ## Delete the account Go to Settings, Account, Delete account. Confirm the email prompt. The account is scheduled for deletion and you are signed out. ## What is removed - Chats and documents. - Memory entries. - Email preferences and marketing profile. - The account record, except records we must keep for tax and fraud rules. ## Can it be undone No. Deletion is permanent. Export anything you want to keep before you confirm. ### How shared links work URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/shared-links A shared link is a read-only copy of a chat, document, or visualization. Anyone with the link can open it. You can revoke the link at any time from the share menu. ## What the link exposes The content you chose to share, and the title. It does not expose your other chats, your memory, or your account settings. A document share is a snapshot of that document, not a live editor. ## Revoke a link Open the item, choose Share, and turn the link off. The old URL stops working. If the content was copied elsewhere before you revoked it, revoking cannot reach that copy. ## Before you share Open the link in a private window and look at what a stranger sees. If the title, the examples, or a quoted message reveal something private, edit or remove it first. A shared link is a copy, not a permission system. ## What not to share - Anything with a password, a key, or a customer record. - A chat that contains someone else's personal data. - A document you do not have the right to publish. ### How annual billing works URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/annual-billing An annual plan is charged once for the year and renews on the same date each year. The monthly price shown on the pricing page is the monthly equivalent, not the amount charged today. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. ## What you pay today The checkout shows the full annual amount before you confirm. The pricing card shows the monthly equivalent so you can compare it with the monthly plan. Both numbers are real; one is the total, one is the average. ## When it renews Twelve months after the first charge, on the same date. The renewal uses the price in effect at that time. If the price changes, the new price is shown before the renewal. ## Cancel before renewal Open Settings, Billing, Cancel plan. You keep the annual plan until the end of the year. Cancelling does not refund the months already used. ## Switch to monthly A plan change takes effect at the next billing date unless the product says otherwise. The confirmation screen shows the date and the amount before you commit. ### Why was I charged? URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/unexpected-charge Open the receipt email and check the plan and period. The usual causes are an annual renewal, a top-up, a subscription bought on another account, or an app store subscription. If none of those fit, email support with the receipt ID. ## Check the receipt The receipt names the plan, the billing period, and the amount. An annual renewal is the most common surprise because the charge is larger than the monthly one and the reminder is the receipt itself. ## Common causes - An annual plan renewed for another year. - A top-up you bought to finish the month. - A subscription on a second account, often an old email. - An iPhone or Android subscription that was not cancelled in the app store. ## What to send support - The receipt ID or the payment ID. - The account email. - The last four digits of the card, if you have them. - What you expected instead. ## If it is fraud If you do not recognise the account at all, contact your bank first, then email support. Do not send your password or a full card number. ### How to write a resume with AI URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/write-a-resume-with-ai Give the AI the job description and your real experience, then ask for a simple one-column draft. It can improve the structure and the wording; it cannot invent your results. Check every number, keep the contact details out of the chat, and cut anything you cannot defend in an interview. ## What to give it - The job description, or the five things the employer cares about. - Your real roles, dates, and what you actually did. - The numbers you can defend: team size, budget, volume, deadline, result. - The tone of the industry. A hospital and a startup do not want the same resume. ## What to ask for Ask for one column, standard headings, and short bullets. Ask it to put the action first and the result last. Ask it to cut anything that does not help you get this job. A simple resume is easier for a person and a tracking system to read. ## What to check - Every number and date against the original. - Every skill you claim. If you cannot talk about it, remove it. - The job title and company spelling. - The file opens on a phone and the text is selectable. - The final PDF has your contact details, and the chat did not. ## Privacy Remove your full address, phone number, and ID numbers before you paste a resume into any AI. Add them back in the final document. If the app has memory, check what it saved and delete anything you do not want kept. ### How to plan a trip with AI URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/plan-a-trip-with-ai Give the AI the dates, budget, who is going, where you are staying, and what you do not want. Ask for a day-by-day plan with travel time, food, a packing list, and a rain plan. Check opening hours, prices, and tickets on the official sites before you pay. ## Start with constraints A generic list comes from a generic request. Tell it the dates, the number of people, the budget, the neighbourhood, how much walking you want, and what you do not want. The more specific the brief, the less generic the plan. ## Ask for a real itinerary Ask for morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner, and the travel time between them. Ask for one free afternoon. A plan with no slack is a plan that falls apart on the first delayed train. ## Ask for a budget and a rain plan Ask for a table with flights, stay, food, local transport, activities, and a buffer. Ask what the prices assume, and whether they are per person. Ask for an indoor alternative for the day it rains. ## Check before you book - Opening hours and closing days on the official site. - Whether a museum or attraction needs a timed ticket. - The real hotel price with taxes and fees. - Travel time at the hour you will actually travel. - Visa, passport, and entry rules for your passport. ### How to check a suspicious message URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/check-a-scam-message Do not use the link or phone number in the message. Open the official app or website yourself, and call the number on the back of your card or the official site. Urgency, requests for codes or card details, and payment by gift card or crypto are the common red flags. ## The red flags - Urgency, threats, or a deadline measured in hours. - A link that does not match the official domain, or a shortened link. - A request for a password, a one-time code, a full card number, or a photo of your ID. - A request to move to WhatsApp, Telegram, or a personal email. - Payment by gift card, crypto, or a bank transfer to a person. - A job, prize, refund, or overpayment you did not ask for. ## Verify without the message Open the official app, or type the official website into your browser. For a bank, call the number on the back of your card. For a delivery, use the retailer's own tracking page. If the message is real, the official route will show it. ## If you already clicked - Do not enter more information. - Change the password on the account, and anywhere you reused it. - Tell your bank if you entered card details. - Report the message to the platform and your local fraud agency. - Watch for follow-up messages that use what you already gave. ## AI is a second opinion AI can point out common red flags, but it cannot verify the sender or the link. Use it to slow down and make a list, then verify through the official route. A green light from an AI is not proof. ### How to study with AI URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/help/study-with-ai Use AI to explain the step you missed, turn notes into flashcards, and quiz you until you can answer without help. Do not ask it to write the essay or solve the problem for you. The test is simple: can you do it again with the AI closed? ## Explain, then practise Ask for the explanation in two ways: one for a beginner and one with the formal steps. Then ask for a similar problem to try on your own. Reading an explanation feels like learning; solving the next problem is learning. ## Use flashcards and quizzes Turn your notes into flashcards with one question and one short answer. Ask it to quiz you one question at a time and wait for your answer. When you get one wrong, ask it to explain the step you missed, not just give the answer. ## Plan the week Tell it your subjects, exam dates, and how many hours you actually have. Ask for a day-by-day plan with breaks and one review day. A plan you can follow beats a plan that looks impressive. ## The honesty check Close the AI and do one problem or explain one idea out loud. If you cannot, you have been reading, not studying. Go back to the step you missed. The goal is to need the AI less by the exam, not more. ## Writing ### What is an AI chat app with memory? URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/what-is-an-ai-chat-app-with-memory Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 5 min read. An AI chat app with memory keeps context between conversations instead of starting from zero. What that changes, and what to check before you rely on it. An AI chat app with memory stores context about you — projects, preferences, people, decisions — and brings the relevant parts into later conversations. Instead of re-explaining your situation every session, you pick up mid-thought. The memory is usually editable: you can read it, correct it, add to it, or delete it. Most chat interfaces are stateless by default. A conversation lives in one thread, and the next thread starts blank. That is fine for a one-off question and exhausting for real work, because the context that makes an answer good — the constraint you mentioned last week, the audience you are writing for, the thing you already tried — has to be rebuilt every time. ## What does memory actually store? A useful memory system stores two different things. The first is durable facts: your role, the tools you use, names you refer to without explaining, preferences about tone or format. The second is working context: what a project is, what has been decided, what is still open. Facts change rarely; working context changes constantly. Both are different from chat history. History is a transcript you can search. Memory is a distillation that is already in play before you type anything. A product that only offers history makes you do the retrieval yourself. ## What should you be able to do with it? - Read it. If you cannot see what the app believes about you, you cannot trust its answers. - Correct it. Memory that is wrong is worse than no memory, because it is applied confidently. - Delete a single entry, not just everything. Selective forgetting is the difference between a tool and a liability. - Turn it off. Some conversations should not persist, and that should be one switch, not a support request. ## Where memory goes wrong The failure mode is not forgetting. It is remembering the wrong thing at the wrong moment — dragging an old preference into a new project, or treating a throwaway remark as a standing instruction. Good memory is selective. It retrieves on relevance to the current turn, not on recency alone, and it does not treat everything it has ever seen as equally true. The second failure is invisibility. If a system quietly accumulates inferences about you and never shows them, you get the downsides of being known without the ability to correct the record. Any memory feature worth using has a settings page behind it. ## How Swirl handles it Swirl keeps a memory store per account and pulls the relevant parts into a conversation as it runs. The Memory tab lists what is stored, lets you add an entry by hand, edit or delete one, and switch the whole thing off. Memory is a paid-plan feature; the free plan is there to try the chat itself. The practical test is simple: start a new chat tomorrow, mention nothing, and ask for something that depends on what you said today. If the answer is right, memory is working. If you have to explain yourself again, it is not. ### Is memory the same as chat history? No. History is a transcript you can scroll or search. Memory is a distilled set of facts and context that is applied automatically in new conversations, whether or not you reference the old thread. ### Does memory make answers more accurate? It makes them more relevant, which is often what accuracy complaints are really about. The model still has to reason correctly, but it no longer has to guess at context you already provided. ### Can I delete what an app remembers about me? You should be able to. Look for a memory settings page that lists entries individually and allows deletion, plus a single switch that disables memory altogether. ### Swirl vs ChatGPT: which one fits how you work? URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/swirl-vs-chatgpt Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 6 min read. One assistant from one vendor, or several models behind one memory. A practical comparison of the trade-offs that show up in daily use. ChatGPT is OpenAI's assistant and a strong default: one vendor, one model family, one place to look. Swirl takes the other approach — several frontier models in a single conversation, with persistent memory and editable artifacts on top. Choose ChatGPT for a familiar single-vendor tool; choose Swirl if you want model choice and long-running context in the same thread. This is not a benchmark. Model quality moves faster than any comparison page can keep up with, and the model you get inside a product depends on routing, versioning, and plan. What does not change quickly is the shape of the product around the model: how it handles context, how it lets you pick a model, and what happens to the work afterwards. ## The core difference: one model family or several ChatGPT is built around OpenAI's models. That is a real advantage — the interface, the tools, and the models are designed together, and there is exactly one place to look when something changes. The trade-off is that every task gets a model from the same family, chosen by the vendor rather than by you. Swirl routes across several frontier models inside one conversation. A quick factual question can go to a fast, cheap model; a hard planning problem can go to a heavier one; image requests go to an image model. You keep one thread and one memory while the engine underneath changes. ## Memory: feature or foundation? Both products remember things. The interesting question is whether memory is a feature you visit or the substrate the product is built on. In Swirl, memory is load-bearing: the point of the product is that a new conversation starts already informed. That also means memory has to be inspectable — there is a settings page that lists entries, allows edits and deletions, and can be switched off. ## What happens to the output A chat reply is usually the end of the interaction: you copy it somewhere else. Swirl treats some replies as artifacts — documents and visualizations that live next to the conversation and stay editable, so the second draft happens where the first one was written. ChatGPT has its own canvas-style editing; the difference is that in Swirl the artifact is the primary object, not a mode you enter. ## Pricing shape Both products sell a subscription and meter heavier usage. Swirl's plans are $9, $29, and $79 per month for progressively larger usage pools across every model, plus optional top-ups, and the free tier is five messages. Check the current pricing page for both products before deciding — this paragraph will age, the structure will not. ## How to decide - Pick ChatGPT if you want one vendor, one model family, and the shortest path to a familiar tool. - Pick Swirl if model choice matters to you, or if your work spans weeks and you are tired of re-explaining it. - Try the free tier of either before paying. Five messages is enough to feel whether the context handling fits. The honest answer is that both are good, and the deciding factor is usually not the model. It is whether the product remembers enough to be useful tomorrow. ### Is Swirl a wrapper around other models? Swirl routes requests to several frontier models through a provider, and adds memory, artifacts, integrations, and billing on top. The value is in that layer, not in pretending to have trained a model. ### Can I use Swirl and ChatGPT at the same time? Yes. Plenty of people keep a general assistant for quick lookups and use Swirl for work that spans multiple sessions, where persistent context matters more than a familiar interface. ### Which is better for coding? Whichever model you route to matters more than which app you open. Swirl lets you choose a heavier model for hard problems and a fast one for small edits inside the same conversation. ### The best AI chat apps with memory in 2026 URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/best-ai-chat-apps-with-memory Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-26. 8 min read. Six AI chat apps that actually remember you, ranked by how memory works, what it costs, and who each one is for. Swirl is third, not first. The best AI chat app with memory depends on what you need it to remember. ChatGPT has the broadest memory and the largest ecosystem. Claude is the strongest for long documents and projects. Swirl is the best multi-model option, with memory as the core product. EcoGPT has the most generous free tier. TypingMind is for people who bring their own API keys. Most apps now claim to remember you. The claim covers four different things: searchable history, within-thread context, extracted memory, and manual memory. Only the last two change how the product feels tomorrow. This list ranks apps on the last two, plus price and the escape hatch. ## How we ranked them - Does memory apply automatically in a new chat, without you retrieving it? - Can you inspect, edit, and delete one entry? - Can you turn memory off for a sensitive conversation? - Does it follow you across devices? - What does it cost after the free tier? ## 1. ChatGPT ChatGPT is the default for a reason. Memory is broad, editable, and present across the product, and the ecosystem around it is larger than any competitor's. If you want one assistant for everything and you do not care about switching models, start here. - Memory: extracted memory plus saved memories you can inspect and delete. - Price: free tier, $20 Plus, $200 Pro. - Best for: one vendor, one model family, the widest set of tools. - Caveat: you are choosing OpenAI's models for every task. ## 2. Claude Claude is the best of the group for long writing and document work. Projects keep a body of context together, and the memory features are good enough that you stop re-explaining the brief. It is a single-model product, like ChatGPT, but the writing quality is the reason to pick it. - Memory: projects plus persistent preferences. - Price: free tier, $20 Pro, $100 and $200 Max. - Best for: long documents, research, careful writing. - Caveat: one model family, and the top tiers are expensive. ## 3. Swirl Swirl is the multi-model option. A new chat starts already informed, the memory is visible and editable, and the model underneath can change without losing the thread. That combination is the reason it is on this list at all. - Memory: extracted memory plus manual entries, with an off switch. - Price: five free messages, then $9, $29, or $79 a month. - Best for: people who use more than one model and work across weeks. - Caveat: the free tier is a trial, not a daily allowance. ## 4. EcoGPT EcoGPT is the free-tier pick. It runs small open-source models, gives a free account up to 500 messages a day with ads, and includes memory, documents, and a task catalog. If cost is the constraint, it is the most generous option here. - Memory: included on the free account. - Price: free with ads, $10 Pro. - Best for: students, light daily use, people who want a free tier. - Caveat: small open-source models are weaker on the hardest tasks. ## 5. TypingMind TypingMind is a frontend, not a model provider. You bring an API key, pay the provider for tokens, and get a strong local-first workspace with projects and memory. It is the best fit for someone who already has API access and wants to own the stack. - Memory: projects and memory on paid plans. - Price: $39 one-time Standard, $79 Extended, $198 Premium, plus API costs. - Best for: developers and power users with their own keys. - Caveat: setup is the product. You need a provider account before the first message. ## 6. Magica Magica sells breadth: thousands of tools, agents, and a large credit pool. Memory is present but it is not the centre of the product. It belongs on the list for someone who wants a toolbox more than a memory layer. - Memory: available, but the product is organised around tools and credits. - Price: $14.99 Hobby, $100 Pro, $200 Max. - Best for: tool breadth and agent-style tasks. - Caveat: credits and a large surface area add decisions. ## What to check before you pay - Start a new chat and say nothing. Does it already know your project? - Find the memory settings page. Can you edit one entry? - Turn memory off. Does the product still work? - Export your data. Is it a real export or a support ticket? - Check the renewal price, not only the first month. The honest answer is that ChatGPT and Claude are safer defaults for most people, EcoGPT is the cheapest way in, and Swirl is the best fit if model choice and long-running context are the two things you care about. Pick the one whose weakness you can live with. ### Which AI chat app has the best memory? ChatGPT has the broadest memory and the largest ecosystem. Claude is close for document work. Swirl is the best if you want memory across several models rather than one vendor. ### Are there free AI chat apps with memory? EcoGPT includes memory on its free account, with ads and a daily message limit. ChatGPT and Claude have free tiers with limited memory. Swirl's free tier is five messages, then paid. ### Does memory work across devices? It should. ChatGPT, Claude, EcoGPT, and Swirl all follow the account rather than the browser. TypingMind is local-first, so check how you sync it before relying on it. ### Is persistent memory a privacy risk? It can be. The mitigations are visibility, selective deletion, and an off switch. A product with no memory settings page is asking you to trust something you cannot audit. ### How to choose an AI chat app URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/how-to-choose-an-ai-chat-app Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 5 min read. Six criteria that actually predict whether you will still be using an AI chat app in a month, and how to test each one in an afternoon. Judge an AI chat app on six things: whether it remembers context, whether you can reach more than one model, what happens to the output after the chat, what it can connect to, what it costs at your real usage, and whether you can leave with your data. Feature lists are long; these six decide whether it survives contact with your week. Choosing an assistant by benchmark score is like choosing a notebook by paper weight. It is a real property, and it is not the thing that decides whether you use it. ## 1. Does it remember, and can you correct it? Spend a day explaining your context, then start a fresh conversation and see what survives. Then try to fix something it got wrong. If correcting memory is impossible or all-or-nothing, the feature is a demo. ## 2. Can you reach more than one model? Different models are better at different things, and the leader changes every few months. A product that lets you route — fast for trivia, heavy for reasoning — ages better than one tied to a single family, and it means a bad week for one vendor is not a bad week for you. ## 3. What happens to the output? Most replies are disposable. Some are not: a plan, a spec, a comparison table you will edit for a week. If the app only produces chat bubbles, you will spend your time copying into another tool. Look for artifacts — documents and visualizations that stay editable beside the conversation. ## 4. What can it connect to? An assistant that cannot read your calendar or your notes is answering from general knowledge. Integrations over an open protocol such as MCP mean the catalog can grow without the vendor shipping every connector itself. ## 5. What does it cost at your actual usage? Compare the shape of the pricing, not the sticker. Message caps suit light use; usage pools measured in dollars suit bursty work where one long session costs more than a week of short ones. Swirl's paid plans are $9, $29, and $79 per month with optional top-ups, and the free tier is five messages, which is enough to test the first four criteria. ## 6. Can you leave? Export your conversations, delete your memory, cancel without a phone call. A product that makes leaving hard is telling you what it thinks of your leverage. This is also the cheapest thing to check and the one people skip. Run those six checks in an afternoon with two candidates. The winner is rarely the one with the longest feature page — it is the one you stop thinking about by Friday. ### Should I pay for an AI chat app or use a free one? Start free and pay when a specific limit gets in your way — a message cap, a missing model, or memory you want to keep. Paying before you have a habit is the most common way people waste a subscription. ### Does a higher price mean a better model? Not directly. Price usually buys usage volume and access to heavier models. The same model can sit behind a cheap plan and an expensive one; what changes is how much of it you can spend. ### How many messages do I need to evaluate an app? About five, if you spend them well: one to explain your context, one to test recall in a new thread, one hard question, one file upload, and one task that produces something you would keep. ### Merlin AI vs Swirl: which multi-model chat app fits your day? URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/merlin-ai-vs-swirl Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 6 min read. Merlin AI and Swirl both put many models in one place. Merlin sells access and a browser extension. Swirl sells memory. Here is the honest comparison. Merlin AI is a multi-model chat app with a browser extension and a free tier of 102 queries a day. Pro lists at $29 a month, or $19 a month billed yearly. Swirl is also multi-model, but it is built around one memory that follows you between models and documents. It starts at $9 a month, with five free messages to test it. ## The short version Merlin and Swirl start from the same observation: no single model is best at everything, so put several of them behind one interface. They diverge on what the product is for. Merlin is a front door to models, with a browser extension that follows you around the web. Swirl is a place where work accumulates, with memory and documents that survive the conversation. ## What Merlin does well - A genuinely generous free tier: 102 queries a day, which covers casual use without paying. - A browser extension that puts the same assistant on any page, which is the fastest way to summarise or rewrite something you are already reading. - Wide model coverage, including image and video generation in the same subscription. - Agents and PDF chat, so it can do more than answer a question. - A cheap annual price relative to its monthly one. ## What Swirl does differently - Memory is the product, not a setting. Swirl extracts what matters from a conversation and carries it into the next one, including when you switch models. - You can read, edit, and delete every memory entry from the Memory tab, so the context is yours rather than a black box. - Answers can become living documents and visualisations that stay editable instead of being copied into another app. - Integrations over MCP connect the same memory to Gmail, Calendar, and Notion. - Pricing starts at $9, with larger $29 and $79 usage tiers when the work gets heavier. ## Price, side by side At the time of writing, in October 2026, Merlin Pro is listed at $29 a month, or $19 a month when billed annually at $228. Teams is $19 per seat monthly, or $15 annual, with a two-seat minimum. Swirl is $9, $29, or $79 monthly, with annual options at $72, $232, or $632 and optional top-ups. Both companies change prices, so check each pricing page before you decide. For a single daily user, the relevant entry comparison is $9 against $29. Swirl adds the same class of models plus editable memory; annual Mini works out to $6.00 a month, while Merlin's annual Pro is about $19. ## Free tier: 102 a day versus five, once Merlin's free plan is the better free product. If you ask a handful of questions a day and do not need memory, you can use Merlin indefinitely without paying, and that is a legitimate reason to choose it. Swirl's five free messages are a trial, not a lifestyle. They exist so you can test the memory and the model picker before deciding, not so you can avoid paying forever. ## Memory is the real difference Every chat app keeps your conversation history. That is not memory. Memory is what happens when the product decides which facts, preferences, and decisions are worth carrying forward, stores them somewhere you can inspect, and puts them in front of the model the next time they are relevant. In Swirl that is a visible list. It fills as you work, it can be corrected when it is wrong, and it can be deleted. Because it sits above the models rather than inside one of them, switching from a fast model to a heavy one does not reset what the app knows about your project. That is the difference between a chat app with history and a chat app with memory. ## Which should you pick? - Choose Merlin if you mainly want many models cheaply, you use a browser extension constantly, or you want to stay on a free plan indefinitely. - Choose Swirl if you keep coming back to the same projects, you are tired of re-explaining context, or you want the output to stay usable after the chat ends. - Use both for a week if you are unsure. Five free messages and 102 free queries cost nothing, and the answer will be obvious after the second project. Sources - Merlin: https://www.getmerlin.in (prices checked 20 October 2026) ### Is Merlin AI free? Merlin offers a free tier with 102 queries a day and limits on which models and features are available. Pro removes the daily query limit and unlocks the full model set, at $29 a month or $19 a month billed annually. ### Is Swirl cheaper than Merlin AI? At entry, yes. Swirl Mini is $9 monthly or $6.00 a month billed annually, against Merlin Pro at $29 monthly or about $19 annually. ### Can I use Merlin and Swirl together? Yes, and many people do. Merlin is useful for quick work on a web page, while Swirl is where a longer project lives. Nothing about one prevents the other. ### Merlin AI alternatives in 2026, and who each one is for URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/merlin-ai-alternatives Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 6 min read. Six realistic Merlin AI alternatives, what each costs, and the specific reason you would leave Merlin for it. No listicle padding. The main Merlin AI alternatives in 2026 are ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Swirl, Monica, and Genspark. Merlin's edge is many models in one place plus a browser extension. The alternatives win on depth: ChatGPT and Claude on a single frontier model, Perplexity on cited research, Swirl on memory across models, and Monica on in-page assistance. ## Start with why you are leaving People rarely leave Merlin because it is bad. They leave because the thing they actually need is not access to more models. It is a better answer on one model, a citation they can check, a memory that persists, or a price that matches how much they use. Pick the alternative that fixes your specific complaint, not the one with the best landing page. ## ChatGPT, if you want the default ChatGPT is the safest general choice and the one most people already know. Free covers light use, Go is around $8, Plus is $20, and Pro is $200. Its memory feature stores facts and preferences, and Projects keep related chats and files together. Choose it if you want one vendor, one app, and the widest ecosystem of integrations and tutorials. The trade-off is that memory lives inside ChatGPT. It does not follow you to Claude or Gemini, and you cannot take it with you when you leave. ## Claude, if the writing is the work Claude is the better writing partner for many people: longer context, calmer prose, and fewer attempts to turn every answer into a bulleted list of seven items. Free is metered, Pro is $20, and Max runs $100 or $200 for heavy use. Choose it if you spend your day in documents rather than in search results. ## Perplexity, if you need sources Perplexity is a research tool that happens to chat. Every answer carries citations, which makes it the right choice for market scans, fact checks, and anything you would have to defend in a meeting. Free covers basic use, Pro is $20, and Max is $200. Choose it if you would rather have five links than one confident paragraph. ## Swirl, if you are tired of repeating yourself Swirl keeps the multi-model premise and moves the centre of gravity to memory. You can start a thread on a fast model, switch to a heavy one for the hard part, and the context comes with you. Memory entries are visible and editable, and answers can turn into documents that stay editable instead of being pasted into a notes app. Its paid ladder is $9 for Mini, $29 for Turbo, and $79 for Mega, with five free messages to start and no card. Choose it if your problem is continuity rather than model access and you want usage to scale predictably. ## Monica, if you want a sidebar everywhere Monica is a browser assistant first: select text on any page, ask about it, and keep moving. Paid tiers sit roughly between $10 and $25 a month depending on the plan. Choose it if your work happens across dozens of tabs and you want help in place rather than in a separate app. ## Genspark, if you want agents and novelty Genspark packages agents, slides, and research into credit-metered plans, with Plus around $25 monthly and a Pro tier near $250. Choose it if you want the product to attempt multi-step tasks on your behalf and you do not mind learning a new interface. ## A practical shortlist - One app, one vendor, no surprises: ChatGPT. - Long documents and good prose: Claude. - Answers you have to cite: Perplexity. - Continuity across models at a lower price: Swirl. - Help inside the page you are reading: Monica. - Delegated multi-step tasks: Genspark. There is no wrong answer here, only a mismatch between the tool and the job. The expensive mistake is paying $20 or $29 a month for a capability you do not use, which is why the free tiers are worth taking seriously before you commit. Sources - Merlin: https://www.getmerlin.in (prices checked 20 October 2026) - Monica pricing: https://monica.im/pricing (checked 20 October 2026) - Genspark: https://www.genspark.ai (plans checked 20 October 2026) ### What is the best free Merlin alternative? ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity all have free tiers that cover light use, and each is stronger than Merlin at one specific job. If you want to test memory specifically, Swirl gives you five free messages without a card. ### What is the cheapest Merlin alternative? Swirl's Mini plan is $9 a month, while Poe and ChatGPT Go have cheaper entry plans. Merlin's own free tier is still the cheapest option if 102 queries a day is enough for you. ### Is Merlin better than ChatGPT? They solve different problems. Merlin gives you many models for one price and works inside your browser. ChatGPT gives you one vendor's models with deeper integration into that ecosystem. Merlin is better value for breadth, ChatGPT is better for depth. ### Why does ChatGPT forget your last conversation? URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/why-chatgpt-forgets Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 5 min read. A plain explanation of context windows, memory, and compaction, plus the four fixes that make any AI chat remember your project. ChatGPT forgets because a chat model only sees the tokens in its current context window. It has no built-in database of your past unless a memory feature writes something down and injects it later. Long threads get compacted, new chats start empty, and memory stores a short list of facts rather than your whole working history. ## What the model actually sees Every reply is a fresh request. The model receives a system prompt, whatever memory the product chose to inject, the recent messages in the thread, and your new message. That is the entire input. It does not have a database it can query, and it does not remember yesterday unless something wrote yesterday down. This is why the same model can feel brilliant in one thread and useless in the next. Nothing changed about the model. The context changed. ## Context window is not memory The context window is short-term working space. It holds the conversation you can see, up to a token limit. Memory is a separate feature that saves a small set of facts, preferences, and instructions, then adds them to future requests. A large context window lets you paste more documents into one conversation. It does not make the app remember you next week. ## Why long conversations degrade When a thread grows past the window, the app has to drop or summarise older messages. Summaries lose detail, and the details are usually the point: the constraint you mentioned in message three, the name you corrected in message nine, the format you asked for. The model is not ignoring you. The information is no longer in front of it. ## Four fixes that work today - Turn memory on and review it. Delete wrong entries; a bad memory is worse than no memory. - Put stable instructions in custom instructions rather than repeating them in every thread. - Use projects or folders to keep related chats and files together, so a new thread starts with the right context. - Keep a short project brief in a document and paste it at the start of a new thread. Three paragraphs of context beat thirty messages of improvisation. ## When the fix is a different app These fixes work inside one vendor. They stop working the moment you switch models or tools, because each product keeps its own memory and none of them export it in a form another app can use. If your work spans several models, the thing you want is memory that sits above them rather than inside one of them. Swirl is built that way. It keeps a visible memory list that you can edit and delete, and it carries that memory across models and conversations. You can start with a fast model and move to a heavy one without re-explaining the project. Five free messages are enough to see whether the difference is real for your work. ## What good memory looks like - Visible: you can read every stored entry, not just trust that it exists. - Editable: correcting a wrong fact takes one click. - Portable: it survives switching models and starting a new thread. - Scoped: project memory stays with the project instead of leaking everywhere. - Deletable: removing an entry actually removes it. Judge any app against those five. Most chat products fail at least two of them, which is why the forgetting problem feels unfixable even when a memory setting is switched on. ### Does ChatGPT have memory? Yes. ChatGPT can save memories and reference past chats, and both behaviours can be turned off in settings. It stores a short list of facts and preferences rather than your full history, so it still forgets details that were never saved. ### Why does ChatGPT forget within the same conversation? The thread has outgrown the context window, so older messages are dropped or summarised. Anything that was only in those messages is no longer available to the model. ### Can I move ChatGPT memory to another app? Not automatically. Memory is stored inside ChatGPT and there is no structured export for it. You can recreate the important parts by pasting them into another app's memory or project brief, which takes a few minutes and is usually worth it. ### What an AI chat app actually costs in 2026 URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/ai-chat-app-pricing-compared Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 6 min read. Magica, ChatLLM, Merlin, and Swirl compared on price, credits, and free tiers, with ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity as context. The real price floor for a multi-model AI chat app in 2026 is $9 to $15: ChatLLM Basic is $10, Magica Pro is $14.99, Merlin is $29 monthly or $19 annual, and Swirl starts at $9. Most of them meter in credits or daily queries. Swirl meters in dollars. ## The $20 anchor is a lab price, not a shelf price Four of the largest AI products independently landed on $20 a month, and that number still functions as the category's reference price. It is close to what a consumer considers an acceptable recurring software cost, and it is high enough to fund heavy inference for typical use. The apps that resell every model have spent the last two years clustering around or below it. ChatLLM advertises $10, Magica charges $14.99, and Swirl starts at $9. The $20 anchor is still what their pages compare against. ## What the tiers actually sell - Message caps: a fixed number of requests per day or month, which is easy to understand and easy to hit. Merlin sells 102 queries a day. - Credits: an internal balance that different models spend at different rates. Magica sells 15 million a month, ChatLLM sells 20,000. - Usage pools: a dollar balance that heavy models consume faster. Better for bursty work, and readable without a conversion table. - Model access: some plans unlock the frontier models, others keep you on a smaller one. - Features: memory, web search, file uploads, image generation, and integrations are often gated separately. - Seats: business plans charge per person, usually with a minimum. ## The 2026 price table - Swirl: 5 free messages, then $9, $29, or $79, with optional top-ups. Metered in dollars. - ChatLLM: $7 first month, then $10 Basic with 20,000 credits, or $20 per user for Pro with 30,000. - Magica: free Hobby tier, $14.99 Pro with 15 million credits, $200 Max, $499 lifetime, teams from $15 a seat. - Merlin: free with 102 queries a day, $29 monthly or $19 monthly billed annually, Teams $19 per seat. - Monica: roughly $10 to $25 depending on the tier. Sider: roughly $10 to $25. - For context: ChatGPT, Claude Pro, and Perplexity Pro are $20, with heavy tiers from $100 to $250. Prices move, and regional pricing varies. Treat these as the shape of the market in October 2026 and check the vendor page before quoting a number. ## Annual billing changes the math Almost every vendor discounts annual billing by 15 to 35 percent, because annual plans reduce churn and fund the discount. Merlin's annual price is $228, which is $19 a month. ChatGPT and Claude offer similar discounts at their standard tiers. The catch is that annual turns a monthly decision into a yearly one, and refund policies are stricter than cancellation policies. A simple rule: pay monthly until you have used the product for two full months without thinking about cancelling. Then take the annual discount. Paying annually to save money on something you might stop using in three weeks is the most common way people overpay for AI. ## Why Swirl has several paid tiers Swirl starts at the multi-model wrapper floor and scales with included usage. The pitch is not a teaser price with hidden model restrictions: every paid plan reaches every model, while the larger tiers buy more room for sustained work. Usage is measured in dollars rather than messages or credits, so a long session on a heavy model costs more than a week of short questions. When a month runs hot, top-ups add one dollar of usage for one dollar instead of forcing an upgrade. There is no unlimited plan, because unlimited inference at a fixed consumer price is a promise that eventually breaks. That is the difference between a dollar pool and a credit pool. A credit is a unit the vendor defines and can spend at any rate it likes. A dollar is a unit you already understand, and it is the one on your statement. ## How to choose without overpaying - Estimate your real usage for a week before you buy anything. - Check which models the plan actually unlocks, not how many it lists. - Find out what a credit buys, and what happens to the balance if you cancel. - Find out what happens at the limit: hard stop, slower model, or extra charges. - Check whether memory, search, and integrations are included or sold separately. - Read the cancellation and refund terms before choosing annual billing. The cheapest plan is the one you cancel. The second cheapest is the one priced for your actual usage, which is usually lower than the plan the pricing page points at. Prices checked - TypingMind pricing: https://www.typingmind.com/buy (one-time licence, 20 October 2026) - Magica pricing: https://magica.com/pricing (credit tiers, 20 October 2026) - ChatLLM: https://abacus.ai/chatllm (credit tiers, 20 October 2026) - Claude plans: https://claude.com/pricing (the $20 anchor, 20 October 2026) ### What is the standard price for an AI chat app in 2026? The labs charge $20: ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Perplexity Pro, and Google AI Pro all sit at or near it. The apps that resell many models start from $10 at ChatLLM, $14.99 at Magica, and $9 at Swirl, with Merlin the outlier at $29 monthly. Entry tiers and annual billing push the effective price lower still. ### Why is Swirl cheaper than ChatGPT Plus? Swirl is a smaller company without a model of its own to fund, and usage is metered in dollars rather than sold as unlimited. The $9 entry tier covers lighter work while the larger plans fund sustained use of heavy models. ### What happens when I hit my plan's limit? It depends on the product. Some stop until the next period, some downgrade you to a smaller model, and some let you buy more usage. Swirl offers configurable one-time credit packs, so a busy month does not require changing plans. ### Magica alternatives in 2026 URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/magica-ai-alternatives Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 7 min read. Magica costs $14.99 a month for 15 million credits and thousands of tools. Here are the alternatives, what they cost, and who each one fits. Magica is an all-in-one AI workspace: $14.99 a month for 15 million credits, thousands of tools, and a $499 lifetime plan. The realistic alternatives are ChatLLM at $10, Merlin at $29, and Swirl from $9 to $79. Swirl is the one for people who want memory across models and a bill in dollars rather than credits. ## What Magica gets right Magica, from GalaxyAI, puts a very large surface behind one login: chat, projects, a library, image and video generation, a prompt library, an ad library, an API, and MCP support. The pitch is "your AI worker", and at $14.99 for a monthly pool of 15 million credits it is a lot of product for the price. It is also the best-marketed app on this shelf. GalaxyAI reports 1.27 million users, publishes AI Snacks as a daily newsletter, and sells a $499 lifetime plan. If you need breadth cheaply, Magica is a reasonable default. ## Why people look for an alternative - Credits are hard to budget. Every model and tool spends them at a different rate, so you cannot tell what a task costs until after you run it. - Breadth is not depth. Thousands of tools means thousands of text boxes with different labels, and few of them know anything about your project. - Continuity is not the headline. Magica sells tools, models, and agents. Memory is not what the pricing page asks you to pay for. - The ladder gets steep. Pro is $14.99, Max is $200, and Teams starts at five seats. - The work leaves with you. A plan or a document is copied into another app before it can be used. There is a sharper version of the last point. Magica's help centre says unused credits roll over only while a subscription is active, and that cancelling removes the entire remaining balance. You are not buying a balance. You are renting access to one. ## The alternatives that matter - ChatLLM (Abacus.AI): $10 a month for Basic, 20,000 credits, 100+ models, image and video generators, and a few agent runs. The cheapest serious entry. - Merlin: free with 102 queries a day, $29 monthly or $19 monthly billed annually. Browser extension, many models, no memory story. - Swirl: a standing free tier followed by several paid plans. Model access is listed per plan, memory is visible and editable, and usage is metered in dollars. - ChatGPT or Claude: $20 for one vendor's models. The right answer if you want one family and nothing else. - Monica or Sider: $10 to $25 for a sidebar that follows you around the browser. Utility, not a workspace. ## How they compare on the things that decide it - Entry price: ChatLLM $10, Monica around $9.90, Magica $14.99, Swirl $9, Merlin $29. - What you are buying: ChatLLM and Magica sell credits and tools. Swirl sells continuity across models. Merlin sells access plus a browser extension. - Memory across conversations: Swirl includes it on paid plans, with read, edit, delete, and an off switch. The others keep chat history and project context. - Cost predictability: Swirl meters in dollars at one dollar per dollar. Everyone else on this list sells a credit or a query count. - Breadth of tools: Magica wins outright. Nothing else bundles image, video, prompts, ads, and an API into one $14.99 plan. ## When Swirl is the right switch Switch to Swirl if the reason you opened Magica was to stop paying for three AI subscriptions, and the thing that keeps disappointing you is starting over. Swirl runs the same class of models, keeps a memory you can inspect and edit, and prices usage in dollars. Swirl is cheaper at entry: $9 against $14.99. Swirl does not offer thousands of one-off tools; it focuses on chat, file uploads, search, image generation, skills, MCP integrations, and documents that stay editable. ## When you should stay on Magica Stay if you actually use the breadth. If you generate video, browse a prompt library for ad concepts, or need one subscription that covers a creative team, Magica does more per dollar than a chat app. The $499 lifetime plan is also a real option once you have tested the product for a month and know you will keep it. The honest rule: choose the tool that matches your week. A video-heavy week belongs on Magica. A week of drafting, deciding, and returning to the same project belongs somewhere with memory. ## How to switch without losing a month - Export the projects you still use. Every app on this list can produce text you can paste. - Write a one-page brief: who you are, what you are working on, and the decisions already made. This becomes the first memory entry anywhere you land. - Run the same three real tasks in the new app for a week. Not demos, the actual work. - Cancel after the period you have paid for, not before. Switching costs a week. A year of the wrong plan costs more. Sources - Magica chat and plans: https://magica.com/chat (checked 20 October 2026) - Magica pricing: https://magica.com/pricing (checked 20 October 2026) ### Is Magica worth $14.99 a month? If you use several of its tools, yes. The Pro plan bundles image and video generation, thousands of tools, and an API for less than most single-model subscriptions. If you mainly type questions and read answers, you are paying for surface area you will not use. ### Does Magica have a free plan? Yes. Magica calls its free tier Hobby and gives you a limited credit allowance so you can test the workspace before paying. The $14.99 Pro plan adds a monthly pool of 15 million credits and higher limits across the tools. ### What is the cheapest alternative to Magica? Swirl starts at $9 a month and gives you five free messages first, with no card. ChatLLM is $10 and includes more tools. Which is better value depends on whether you need breadth or continuity. ### Can I use Magica and Swirl together? Yes, and some people should. Magica for video, image, and one-off tools. Swirl for the projects you return to. Running both at the entry tiers costs $19.99 a month, which is still less than two model-lab subscriptions. ### ChatLLM vs Swirl URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/chatllm-vs-swirl Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 6 min read. ChatLLM Basic is $10 for 20,000 credits and 100+ models. Swirl Mini is $9 with memory and a dollar-based pool. What the $1 difference buys. ChatLLM Basic costs $10 a month for 20,000 credits, 100+ models, image and video generators, and a few agent runs. Swirl Mini costs $9 for the same class of models plus memory across conversations and usage metered in dollars. ChatLLM costs $10 at entry and includes more tools. Swirl is cheaper at entry and built to remember. ## The short version - ChatLLM: $10 Basic, $20 Pro, credits, automatic routing, agents, apps, image and video. - Swirl: $9 Mini, $29 Turbo, $79 Mega, dollars, manual tiers, memory, artifacts, integrations. - Choose ChatLLM for breadth and agents at the lowest price. Choose Swirl if the work continues tomorrow. ## Price: what $10 and $9 actually buy ChatLLM's Basic plan is $10 a month after a $7 first month, and includes 20,000 credits. Pro is $20 per user and includes 30,000 credits. Swirl's Mini is $9 a month with a usage pool measured in dollars, and every paid plan reaches every model. The five-dollar difference matters, but it should not decide the comparison alone. What decides it is what happens on the fiftieth message, when one product has a credit balance and the other has a memory. ## Models: both reach the frontier ChatLLM advertises 100+ models across OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and open-weight providers, with RouteLLM picking one automatically when you leave it on Auto. Swirl runs tiers instead: Fast for everyday work, Heavy for hard problems, plus Auto and a separate model for image generation. Every paid Swirl plan can reach every tier. Both route through third-party providers, so the practical difference is control. ChatLLM's default is to choose for you. Swirl lets you pick the tier and see what you are spending. ## Memory: the real difference ChatLLM keeps conversations and personal agents, and an agent can hold context for a workflow. Swirl's memory is a first-class object. It stores projects, preferences, and recurring context, brings the relevant parts into a new chat, and lets you read, add, edit, and delete entries, or turn the whole thing off. That matters because the failure mode of a multi-model app is discontinuity. You switch models, and the new one knows nothing. A router without memory gives you a hundred strangers. A router with memory gives you one assistant with a hundred voices. ## Credits against dollars A credit is an internal unit. It protects the vendor's margin when different models cost different amounts, and it makes the customer do arithmetic before every heavy task. ChatLLM's 20,000 credits are not 20,000 messages. A long run on a frontier model spends far more than a short question on a small one. Swirl meters usage against the credit pool included with a plan. Configured one-time top-ups can add more without changing the subscription. You still pay more for heavy models, but the current pricing page shows the unit before checkout. ## Output and integrations ChatLLM's edge is building things: apps with hosting and a database, slides, and agent runs. Swirl's edge is keeping things: living documents, visualizations, and integrations over MCP that can act in Gmail, Calendar, and Notion. One is a launchpad. The other is a desk. ## Who should pick ChatLLM - You want the lowest entry price with the widest tool set. - You will actually use the app builder, slides, or agent runs. - You are comfortable with credits and automatic routing. - You switch tools often and do not need continuity. ## Who should pick Swirl - You return to the same projects across days and weeks. - You want to choose the model rather than guess which one answered. - You want a bill you can read without a conversion table. - You want the output to stay editable instead of being copied into another app. ## The five-dollar question ChatLLM is a better deal on paper, and it may be the better product for a week of exploration. Swirl is the better product for the second week, when you should not have to explain the project again. That is what the extra five dollars buys, and it is the one claim a credit system cannot copy without becoming a different company. Sources - ChatLLM: https://abacus.ai/chatllm (plans checked 20 October 2026) ### Is ChatLLM really $10 a month? The Basic plan is $10 a month, with a $7 first month. Pro is $20 per user a month. Both are credit-metered, so heavy use can cost more than the headline. ### What are ChatLLM credits? An internal usage unit. Different models spend different amounts per request, so 20,000 credits do not translate into a fixed number of messages. ### Is Swirl more expensive than ChatLLM? Mini is $9 against ChatLLM Basic at $10, so Swirl is cheaper at entry. The more useful comparison is cost per month of real work, where credits and dollar pools diverge. ### Do I get memory on the free plan? Swirl's memory is a paid feature. The free plan is five messages with no card, enough to test the chat and the model quality. Memory starts on a paid plan. ### TypingMind alternatives in 2026 URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/typingmind-alternatives Published: 2026-10-20. Updated: 2026-10-20. 6 min read. TypingMind proved people will pay for a better AI frontend, but it asks for your own API key. Here are the alternatives that remove the setup. TypingMind is a one-time licence from $39 that turns your own API keys into a polished AI workspace. It has 20,641+ customers and no subscription. The alternatives are Swirl ($9 to $79 a month, no keys, memory included), ChatLLM ($10, hosted), Magica ($14.99, tools), and ChatGPT or Claude ($20, one model family). ## What TypingMind gets right TypingMind is the best argument that this category is real. It has 20,641+ paying customers, a 4.6 Trustpilot score, and a one-time licence instead of a subscription. You get multi-model chats, projects, artifacts, an agent builder, MCP plugins, and a local-first design where chats live on your device. From $39, it is genuinely hard to beat on features per dollar. It is also the cheapest way to use frontier models if you already pay for API access. There is no markup on tokens and no monthly fee. The licence covers updates forever. That is a fair deal, and it explains why the company is profitable with three people. ## The catch is the first ten minutes TypingMind does not include a model. Before you can send a message, you create an account with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or OpenRouter, add a payment method, generate an API key, paste it in, and hope the key has the right permissions. Then you do it again for the second provider you want to compare. That is not a settings screen. It is a second product, and it is the one most people quit on. The buyers who stay are power users: developers, consultants, people who already had a key. Everyone else wanted the frontend without the infrastructure. The bill is split too. $39 once, then tokens to OpenAI, then tokens to Anthropic, then a top-up when a key hits its limit. One subscription became three invoices and a spreadsheet. ## What to look for in an alternative - No key setup. You sign in and type. If the app asks for an API key on the first screen, it is a tool for a different buyer. - One bill. Usage can be metered, but it should be metered in dollars on the same invoice as the subscription. - Memory you can edit. Chat history is not memory. You want a list of what the app knows, with edit and delete. - Every model on every paid plan. Not a model-of-the-month rotation behind a credit system. - Documents that survive. An artifact should still be editable next week, not a screenshot of a chat. ## The alternatives, in order - Swirl: a standing free tier followed by several paid plans. No API keys. Model access is listed per plan, memory is visible and editable, and usage is billed in dollars. The closest thing to TypingMind's promise without the setup. - ChatLLM (Abacus.AI): $10 a month for Basic, 20,000 credits, 100+ models, image and video generation. Hosted and cheap, but you are back in credit math. - Magica: $14.99 a month for 15 million credits and thousands of tools. The widest surface on the shelf, and the furthest from a simple chat. - ChatGPT or Claude: $20 a month for one model family. The right answer if you do not actually want to switch models. - TypingMind itself: $39 once, plus your API bill. Still the best choice if you already have keys and want local storage. ## Swirl vs TypingMind, honestly TypingMind wins on price if you already have API access and use a lot of tokens. A $39 licence plus your token bill can be cheaper than a year of Swirl Mini at $9 a month, and you keep your data on your device. Swirl wins on the first ten minutes and on the bill. There is nothing to configure, the memory is part of the product instead of a setting you maintain, and the cost is one number. If you have ever opened TypingMind, seen the API-key screen, and closed the tab, that is the gap. There is a third case: you want both. TypingMind for local-only work with your own keys, Swirl for the projects you want remembered across models. Mini starts at $9 monthly or $72 annually, so compare the combined cost against the subscriptions you would replace. ## How to switch without losing your setup - Export the chats you still use. TypingMind stores them locally, so export before you cancel anything. - Write a one-page brief: who you are, what you are working on, and the decisions already made. Paste it into memory on the first day. - Run the same three real tasks for a week. A demo tells you nothing; a week tells you whether the memory is real. - Keep the TypingMind licence. It is one-time, so there is no penalty for coming back. Sources - TypingMind pricing: https://www.typingmind.com/buy (checked 20 October 2026) - TypingMind: https://www.typingmind.com/ ### Is TypingMind free? TypingMind has a free tier with basic chat, but history is not saved and it shows upgrade prompts. The paid licence is one-time: Standard from $39, Premium $198. Neither includes API costs, which you pay to the model provider. ### Why does TypingMind need an API key? TypingMind is a frontend, not a model provider. It sends requests from your browser to OpenAI, Anthropic, or another provider using your key, so you pay those providers directly for tokens. That is how it avoids a subscription. ### What is the cheapest TypingMind alternative? Swirl starts at $9 a month after five free messages and includes the models, so there is no separate API bill. If you already have API access, TypingMind's $39 one-time licence is cheaper over a year, but you still pay for tokens. ### Does TypingMind have memory? Yes, TypingMind has memory and project features on paid plans. The difference is that it is a setting inside a local-first workspace, while Swirl treats memory as the product and applies it across model switches automatically. ### Can I use TypingMind without OpenAI? Yes. TypingMind supports Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, and other providers, and you can add more than one key. You still need at least one provider account and a payment method before the first message. ### Genspark alternatives in 2026, compared on price and memory URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/genspark-alternatives Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. Genspark is an agent workspace. If you want plain chat, persistent memory, or a lower price, these alternatives are worth trying. Genspark is best for agent-style tasks and generated slides. The best alternatives are ChatGPT for one broad ecosystem, Claude for long writing, Swirl for memory across several models, Perplexity for research with sources, and Poe for a cheap points-based entry. Genspark sells a workspace: agents, slides, research, and a large credit pool. That is a different job from a chat app you return to every day. If you mostly want a conversation that remembers you, one of the alternatives below will fit better. ## Who should switch - You want one thread with memory, not a fresh agent for every task. - You are tired of checking a credit balance before asking a question. - You want to switch models inside the same conversation. - You want a lower entry price than $24.99 a month. ## 1. ChatGPT ChatGPT is the safest default if you want one vendor and one model family. It has memory, tools, and the largest ecosystem. It is not the cheapest, and you do not get to choose Claude or Gemini inside the same thread. - Price: free tier, $20 Plus, $200 Pro. - Best for: one assistant for everything. - Trade-off: one model family. ## 2. Claude Claude is the writing and document pick. Projects keep context together, and the output is usually better for long drafts. It is a single-model product, so it does not solve the model-choice problem Genspark users often have. - Price: free tier, $20 Pro, $100 and $200 Max. - Best for: long documents and careful writing. - Trade-off: one model family. ## 3. Swirl Swirl is the closest swap if the part of Genspark you liked was having several models available. The difference is the shape: one conversation with memory and editable artifacts, not a separate agent per job. - Price: five free messages, then $9, $29, or $79 a month. - Best for: multi-model work that spans weeks. - Trade-off: the free tier is a trial, not a daily allowance. ## 4. Perplexity Perplexity is the research alternative. If most of your Genspark use is finding sources and summarising them, Perplexity is more direct and cites what it used. - Price: free tier, $20 Pro, $200 Max. - Best for: research with sources. - Trade-off: not a general-purpose writing workspace. ## 5. Poe Poe is the cheap entry. It is a marketplace of bots on a points system. You give up a single coherent memory, but you get many models and a low monthly price. - Price: $4.99 entry, around $20 mid, $249.99 top. - Best for: trying many bots cheaply. - Trade-off: points, not a persistent workspace. ## What to check before you switch - Does memory apply to a new chat without you pasting context? - Can you pick the model, or is it chosen for you? - What does the plan cost at renewal, not only in month one? - Can you export the work you made? Prices checked - Genspark pricing: https://www.genspark.ai/pricing - ChatGPT pricing: https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing/ - Claude pricing: https://www.anthropic.com/pricing ### What is the cheapest Genspark alternative? Poe starts at $4.99 a month and ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Swirl all have free tiers. Swirl's free tier is five messages, so it is a trial rather than a daily free plan. ### Does Swirl have agents like Genspark? Swirl focuses on one conversation with memory, editable artifacts, and several models. It is not an agent marketplace. If you need a separate agent per task, Genspark is the closer product. ### Which alternative has the best memory? ChatGPT has the broadest memory. Swirl is the best if you want memory that survives switching between models. Claude is strong for project-based writing. ### Poe alternatives in 2026, compared on price and memory URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/poe-alternatives Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. Poe is a bot marketplace on a points system. If you want one assistant with memory and a flat price, these are the alternatives. Poe is cheap and broad, but it is a marketplace of bots on points, not one assistant with persistent memory. The best alternatives are ChatGPT for a single ecosystem, Claude for writing, Swirl for memory across models, TypingMind for bring-your-own-key, and ChatLLM for a large cheap credit pool. Poe is a good place to sample many bots for a few dollars. It is a poor place to keep a project, because the unit is a bot and the meter is points. If you want continuity, the alternatives below are the ones to compare. ## Who should switch - You want one conversation with memory instead of a new bot per task. - You want a flat monthly price instead of points. - You want to switch models without changing products. - You want your work to live in a workspace, not a chat log. ## 1. ChatGPT ChatGPT is the broadest single assistant. It has memory, tools, and a large ecosystem. If you liked Poe because it had many bots, ChatGPT is narrower, but it is more coherent. - Price: free tier, $20 Plus, $200 Pro. - Best for: one assistant for everything. - Trade-off: one model family. ## 2. Claude Claude is the writing alternative. Projects and long context make it better for documents than a bot marketplace. It is not the place to sample twenty models. - Price: free tier, $20 Pro, $100 and $200 Max. - Best for: long writing and research. - Trade-off: one model family. ## 3. Swirl Swirl keeps the multi-model part of Poe and drops the marketplace. One conversation, several models, memory that persists, and artifacts that stay editable. It is the closest thing to Poe for people who want a workspace. - Price: five free messages, then $9, $29, or $79 a month. - Best for: multi-model work with continuity. - Trade-off: fewer bots than Poe, by design. ## 4. TypingMind TypingMind is the bring-your-own-key option. You pay once for the frontend and then pay providers for tokens. It is cheaper over a year if you already have API access, and more work if you do not. - Price: $39 one-time Standard, plus API costs. - Best for: power users with their own keys. - Trade-off: setup before the first message. ## 5. ChatLLM ChatLLM is the large cheap credit pool. It gives you many models for $10 a month and meters them in credits. If you liked Poe's low entry price and do not need memory, it is the closest price match. - Price: $10 Basic with 20,000 credits, $20 Pro, around $100 Max. - Best for: cheap access to many models. - Trade-off: credits and a less personal workspace. ## The honest comparison Poe wins on breadth and entry price. ChatGPT and Claude win on coherence. Swirl wins if memory plus model choice is the combination you want. None of them is strictly better, and the points meter is the thing most people leave Poe to escape. Prices checked - Poe pricing: https://poe.com/pricing - ChatGPT pricing: https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing/ - Claude pricing: https://www.anthropic.com/pricing ### Is Poe cheaper than ChatGPT? Poe starts at $4.99 a month and ChatGPT Plus is $20. Poe meters usage in points, so the cheap entry does not mean unlimited use. Compare the cost of the messages you actually send. ### Does Poe have memory? Poe has chat history and bot-specific context, but it is not a single persistent memory across every bot. That is the main reason people move to a dedicated assistant. ### Which Poe alternative is best for memory? ChatGPT has the broadest memory. Swirl is the best if you want memory that survives switching between models. Claude is strong for project-based writing. ### ChatHub alternatives in 2026, compared on price and memory URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/chathub-alternatives Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. ChatHub puts two models side by side in the browser. If you want one thread with memory and a lower price, these are the alternatives. ChatHub is a comparison tool: two models side by side in a browser extension. The best alternatives are Swirl for one thread with memory across models, TypingMind for bring-your-own-key, Poe for a cheap bot marketplace, ChatLLM for a large credit pool, and Magica for tool breadth. ChatHub is good at one thing: showing you two answers at once. That is useful when you are choosing a model. It is less useful when you are trying to finish a project, because the comparison is the product and the thread is not the workspace. ## Who should switch - You already know which model you like and want to keep one thread. - You want memory that applies without re-pasting context. - You want documents and artifacts, not only chat bubbles. - You want a flat plan instead of a query meter. ## 1. Swirl Swirl is the closest swap for the multi-model part of ChatHub. The difference is the container: one conversation with memory and editable artifacts, instead of two panes to compare. You can still switch models, but the thread survives the switch. - Price: five free messages, then $9, $29, or $79 a month. - Best for: multi-model work that lasts more than one sitting. - Trade-off: no side-by-side dual pane. ## 2. TypingMind TypingMind is the power-user alternative. You bring API keys, pay providers directly, and get a local-first workspace with projects and plugins. It is more setup and more control. - Price: $39 one-time Standard, plus API costs. - Best for: developers who already have keys. - Trade-off: the key screen is the first ten minutes. ## 3. Poe Poe is the cheap sampler. Many bots, a points meter, and a low entry price. It is closer to ChatHub's comparison instinct than to a workspace. - Price: $4.99 entry, around $20 mid, $249.99 top. - Best for: trying many bots cheaply. - Trade-off: points, not one memory. ## 4. ChatLLM ChatLLM is the large credit pool. It gives you many models for $10 and meters them in credits. Good if you mostly want access and can live with a meter. - Price: $10 Basic with 20,000 credits, $20 Pro, around $100 Max. - Best for: cheap access to many models. - Trade-off: credits and no real memory layer. ## 5. Magica Magica is the toolbox. Thousands of tools, agents, and a credit pool. It is the opposite trade from ChatHub: more surface area, less focus on the conversation. - Price: $14.99 Hobby, $100 Pro, $200 Max. - Best for: tool breadth. - Trade-off: credits and decisions. If you use ChatHub to decide between models, keep it for a week. If you use it to get work done, move to a product where the thread is the workspace. Prices checked - ChatHub pricing: https://chathub.gg/pricing - Poe pricing: https://poe.com/pricing - ChatGPT pricing: https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing/ ### Is ChatHub free? ChatHub has a free tier with limits, and paid plans from $19 a month, or $14.99 a month billed annually. The top plan is $39 for unlimited use within its fair-use rules. ### Does ChatHub have memory? ChatHub keeps chat history, but its centre is the side-by-side comparison. It does not treat persistent memory as the product in the way Swirl or ChatGPT do. ### What is the best ChatHub alternative for work? Swirl if you want one thread with memory across models. TypingMind if you already have API keys. ChatGPT if you want one vendor and do not need the dual pane. ### Monica alternatives in 2026, compared on price and memory URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/monica-alternatives Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 5 min read. Monica is a browser sidebar assistant. If you want a workspace with memory, a lower price, or a different model mix, compare these. Monica is a sidebar that follows you across tabs. The best alternatives are Sider for a similar sidebar, Merlin for a daily free allowance, Swirl for a memory-first workspace, ChatHub for side-by-side models, and TypingMind for bring-your-own-key. Monica's advantage is placement: it sits beside whatever you are reading. Its weakness is the same thing. A sidebar is a utility, not a place where a project lives. If you want the project to persist, the alternatives below are the ones to compare. ## Who should switch - You want one project thread instead of a sidebar on every tab. - You want memory that applies to the work, not only the page. - You want documents and artifacts next to the chat. - You want a flat plan instead of a credit balance. ## 1. Sider Sider is the closest like-for-like swap. It is a browser sidebar with many models and a free tier. If the sidebar is the part you actually use, stay in that category. - Price: from $8.30 a month billed annually, $24.90 Plus, $133.30 Ultra. - Best for: a sidebar on every tab. - Trade-off: utility, not a workspace. ## 2. Merlin Merlin is the daily-allowance alternative. It gives a generous free daily pool and a browser extension, with a $29 monthly plan or $19 billed annually. It is a good fit if you want many small questions answered without a credit meter. - Price: free 102 queries a day, $29 monthly or $19 annual. - Best for: daily small tasks. - Trade-off: memory is an afterthought. ## 3. Swirl Swirl is the workspace alternative. Memory is the product, the models can change inside one thread, and replies can become editable documents and visualizations. It is the opposite bet from a sidebar. - Price: five free messages, then $9, $29, or $79 a month. - Best for: work that spans weeks. - Trade-off: not a browser sidebar. ## 4. ChatHub ChatHub is the side-by-side option. If you used Monica to compare answers, ChatHub makes the comparison the product. It is cheaper to try than a full workspace. - Price: $19 monthly, $14.99 annual, $39 unlimited. - Best for: comparing two models. - Trade-off: a comparison toy, not a memory layer. ## 5. TypingMind TypingMind is for people who want to own the stack. Bring your own API key, pay providers directly, and get a strong local-first workspace. More setup, more control. - Price: $39 one-time Standard, plus API costs. - Best for: developers and power users. - Trade-off: setup before the first message. The question is not which sidebar is best. It is whether you want a sidebar at all. If the answer is yes, Sider and Merlin are the direct alternatives. If the answer is no, Swirl is the workspace bet. Prices checked - Monica pricing: https://monica.im/pricing - Sider pricing: https://sider.ai/pricing - Merlin pricing: https://www.getmerlin.in/pricing ### Is Monica free? Monica has a free tier with around 40 basic messages a day and paid plans from $9.90 a month. The Ultra plan is $82.90 a month. ### What is the best Monica alternative? Sider if you want the same sidebar shape. Merlin if you want a generous daily free allowance. Swirl if you want a memory-first workspace instead of a sidebar. ### Does Monica have memory? Monica keeps chat history and some context, but it is a sidebar assistant first. Persistent, editable memory is not the centre of the product. ### Sider alternatives in 2026, compared on price and memory URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/sider-alternatives Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 5 min read. Sider is a browser sidebar with many models. If you want a workspace with memory, a different price, or a simpler product, compare these. Sider is a sidebar with many models and a large free base. The best alternatives are Monica for the same shape, Merlin for a daily free pool, Swirl for a memory-first workspace, ChatHub for side-by-side models, and TypingMind for bring-your-own-key. Sider is one of the better browser sidebars. It is cheap, it has many models, and it is always one click away. The thing it does not do is hold a project together across weeks. That is the gap the alternatives below fill. ## Who should switch - You want one thread with memory instead of a sidebar per page. - You want the work to live somewhere, not only in a chat log. - You want a flat plan instead of a credit balance. - You want documents and artifacts next to the conversation. ## 1. Monica Monica is the closest like-for-like swap. Same sidebar shape, similar free tier, slightly lower entry price. If the sidebar is the feature you want, this is the obvious comparison. - Price: $9.90 entry, $82.90 Ultra, around 40 free messages a day. - Best for: a sidebar on every tab. - Trade-off: utility, not a workspace. ## 2. Merlin Merlin is the daily free pool. It gives 102 free queries a day and a browser extension, with a $29 monthly plan or $19 annual. Good if you want many small answers without a meter. - Price: free 102 queries a day, $29 monthly or $19 annual. - Best for: daily small tasks. - Trade-off: memory is an afterthought. ## 3. Swirl Swirl is the workspace bet. Memory is the product, models can change inside one thread, and replies become editable documents and visualizations. It is not a sidebar, and that is the point. - Price: five free messages, then $9, $29, or $79 a month. - Best for: work that spans weeks. - Trade-off: not a browser sidebar. ## 4. ChatHub ChatHub is the comparison tool. Two models side by side, cheap to try. It is the right alternative if you mostly used Sider to compare answers. - Price: $19 monthly, $14.99 annual, $39 unlimited. - Best for: comparing two models. - Trade-off: a comparison toy, not a memory layer. ## 5. TypingMind TypingMind is the bring-your-own-key workspace. Pay once, use your own API keys, keep the data local-first. More setup, more control, no subscription for the frontend. - Price: $39 one-time Standard, plus API costs. - Best for: developers and power users. - Trade-off: setup before the first message. Sider is good at being there. If you want a product that remembers what you were doing, a sidebar is the wrong shape. That is the whole decision. Prices checked - Sider pricing: https://sider.ai/pricing - Monica pricing: https://monica.im/pricing - Merlin pricing: https://www.getmerlin.in/pricing ### Is Sider cheaper than Monica? Sider starts lower on the annual plan, around $8.30 a month billed yearly, and Monica starts at $9.90 monthly. Check the renewal price and the model limits before choosing on the entry price alone. ### Does Sider have memory? Sider keeps chat history and page context, but it is a sidebar first. Persistent, editable memory across projects is not its centre. ### What is the best Sider alternative for long projects? Swirl if you want memory across models. ChatGPT or Claude if you want one vendor. TypingMind if you want to bring your own API keys. ### Free ChatGPT alternatives in 2026, and what free actually means URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/free-chatgpt-alternatives Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. The free tiers of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, EcoGPT, Poe, and Swirl, compared on daily limits, memory, and what you give up. Checked October 2026. The best free ChatGPT alternative depends on the limit you can live with. Claude and Gemini have free tiers for writing and general chat. Perplexity is best for research with sources. EcoGPT gives the most free messages a day. Swirl gives five free messages with memory and several models, then paid plans. Free is not one thing. Some free tiers give you a daily message count, some give you a weaker model, some show ads, and some are a five-message trial. The right choice depends on which of those you can live with. ## The short list - Claude free: strong writing, a limited daily allowance. - Gemini free: general chat and Google integration, a limited allowance. - Perplexity free: research with sources, a limited number of Pro searches. - EcoGPT free: up to 500 messages a day with ads, small open-source models. - Poe free: 300 non-rolling points across many bots. - Swirl free: five messages with memory and several models, then paid. ## 1. Claude free Claude's free tier is the best of the group for writing. You get the same voice as the paid product, with a lower ceiling and no Projects on the free plan. If your main job is drafting, start here. - Best for: writing and editing. - Limit: a daily message allowance that resets. - Trade-off: one model family, no Projects on free. ## 2. Gemini free Gemini's free tier is a general assistant with Google integration. It is a reasonable default if you already live in Google's products. The free model is not the top tier. - Best for: general chat and Google users. - Limit: a daily allowance and a lower model tier. - Trade-off: the best models are paid. ## 3. Perplexity free Perplexity is the research free tier. It answers with sources you can open, and the free plan includes a limited number of Pro searches a day. If you need citations more than conversation, it is the pick. - Best for: research with sources. - Limit: a small number of Pro searches a day. - Trade-off: not a long-writing workspace. ## 4. EcoGPT free EcoGPT has the most generous free message count: up to 500 a day with a free account, with ads between chats. It runs small open-source models, so it is weaker on the hardest tasks, but the volume is unmatched. - Best for: students and light daily use. - Limit: 500 messages a day with ads, 60 without an account. - Trade-off: small models and ad-supported. ## 5. Poe free Poe gives 300 non-rolling points to sample many bots. It is the best free way to try a lot of models, and the worst free way to keep a project, because the points do not roll over and the memory is per bot. - Best for: sampling many bots. - Limit: 300 points, no rollover. - Trade-off: no single memory. ## 6. Swirl free Swirl's free tier is five messages, not a daily allowance. That is enough to feel whether memory and model switching fit how you work, and not enough to use as a free daily tool. The paid plans start at $9. - Best for: testing memory across several models. - Limit: five messages, once. - Trade-off: it is a trial, not a free plan. ## What free usually costs - A lower model tier, not the one in the ads. - A daily message cap that resets, or a one-time trial. - Ads, in the ad-supported products. - Less memory, or memory you cannot edit. If you want a free daily driver, EcoGPT is the most generous. If you want the best writing for free, Claude. If you want research with sources, Perplexity. If you want to test memory plus model choice, Swirl's five messages are the trial. Prices checked - ChatGPT pricing: https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing/ - Claude pricing: https://www.anthropic.com/pricing - Perplexity pricing: https://www.perplexity.ai/pro ### What is the best free ChatGPT alternative? Claude has the best free writing quality, Perplexity is best for research with sources, and EcoGPT gives the most free messages a day. Swirl's free tier is five messages, so it is a trial rather than a daily free plan. ### Are free AI chat apps really unlimited? No. Most free tiers have a daily message cap, a lower model tier, or ads. EcoGPT's 500 messages a day is unusually generous, and it is ad-supported. ### Which free alternative has memory? EcoGPT includes memory on its free account. ChatGPT and Claude have limited memory on free tiers. Swirl includes memory in its five-message trial. ### How to make ChatGPT remember your project URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/how-to-make-chatgpt-remember Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. A practical, no-jargon guide to ChatGPT memory, custom instructions, projects, and the project brief that survives a new chat. ChatGPT can remember some things, but it does not keep a full picture of your project. Turn memory on and review it, put stable instructions in custom instructions, keep related work in a project, and paste a short project brief into a new thread. For work that spans weeks or several AIs, keep the brief in a document you own. You can tell ChatGPT the same thing three times and still get an answer that ignores it. The fix is not a better sentence. It is a system for keeping the context in front of the AI. ## 1. Turn memory on, then read it ChatGPT has a memory feature that saves facts and preferences and brings them into later chats. Turn it on in Settings, then open the memory list and read it. Delete anything that is wrong, stale, or too personal. A bad memory is worse than no memory because the app applies it confidently. Once a month, spend ten minutes on this. It is the difference between an assistant that knows you and one that repeats an old version of you. ## 2. Put the stable stuff in custom instructions Custom instructions are for things that do not change: who you are, what you are working on, how you like answers, and what the AI should not do. Keep it short. Three or four sentences are enough. Do not paste your whole life story; the point is to stop repeating the basics. ## 3. Keep related work in one project A project keeps chats and files together, so a new thread starts with the right context. Use one project per real thing: a job search, a course, a move, a client. Do not put everything in one project; the context gets noisy and the AI starts mixing up the details. ## 4. Paste a project brief into a new thread This is the fix that works even when memory fails. Write a short brief in a document you own, then paste it at the start of a new thread. Three paragraphs: - What this is: the project, the goal, and the deadline. - What is already true: decisions, constraints, names, and numbers. - What I need now: the specific next step, and what not to do. A good brief is 150 to 250 words. Longer is not better; it buries the point. Update it when something changes, and keep it in a place you control, not only inside one chat app. ## Why it still forgets - Memory is a short list of facts, not a full transcript. - A new chat starts without the old thread unless memory or a project brings it in. - A long thread gets compacted, and the details are often what gets lost. - Switching to another AI or app starts from zero, because each product keeps its own memory. If your work spans several AIs, keep the brief in a document. That is the only portable memory. A chat app that stores memory across AIs can carry it for you, but the document is still the backup. Try it in Swirl - AI for everything: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/everything - 50 things to ask: https://dev.swirlai.app/things-to-ask - What is an AI chat app with memory?: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/what-is-an-ai-chat-app-with-memory ### Does ChatGPT memory work across chats? Yes, when memory is on and the fact was saved. It is not a full transcript; it stores a short list of facts and preferences, so details that were never saved can still be missing. ### Why does it forget within a long conversation? The thread has outgrown the context window, so older messages are dropped or summarised. Paste a short project brief at the start, or start a new thread with the brief, to keep the important details in front of it. ### Can I move ChatGPT memory to another app? Not automatically. Keep a portable project brief in a document and paste it into the new app. Some apps store memory across AIs, but the document is still the backup. ### How to write a resume with AI without sounding like a robot URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/how-to-write-a-resume-with-ai Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. Use AI to turn real experience into a clear, honest resume. The request, the structure, the numbers, and the mistakes to avoid. Use AI to organise and sharpen experience you already have, not to invent it. Give it the job description, your real achievements, and the result of each one. Ask for a single-column, plain-language draft, then cut anything you cannot defend in an interview. A resume is a short argument that you can do the job. AI is good at the shape of that argument and bad at the facts. Keep the facts yours. ## Start with the job, not your history Paste the job description and ask for the five things the employer actually cares about. Then list your real experience that matches those five. This stops you from writing a generic resume and hoping. ## Give it facts, not adjectives Hard work, passionate, team player: these are not evidence. Give the AI the real thing: the size of the team, the budget, the deadline, the volume, the result. If you do not have a number, describe the change. Cutting the weekly report from four hours to one is stronger than improved reporting. ## Ask for a simple structure Ask for one column, standard headings, and no tables, graphics, or photo. Many applicant tracking systems read plain text more reliably. A clean resume is not boring; it is readable. ## Tailor, do not lie Ask the AI to match your real experience to the job's words. Do not ask it to add skills you do not have. You will have to defend every line in the interview, and the interviewer can tell. ## Check the privacy Remove your full address, phone number, and any ID numbers before you paste a resume into an AI. Keep the contact details in the final document, not in the chat. If the app has memory, check what it saved. ## The ten-minute final pass - Read every bullet aloud. If it sounds like a brochure, rewrite it. - Keep the first line of each role about the scope, the rest about the result. - Cut anything older than 10 to 15 years unless it is directly relevant. - Check the job title, company, and dates against the original. - Export to PDF and open it on a phone. If it is hard to read, simplify it. Try it in Swirl - Resume app: https://dev.swirlai.app/apps/resume - 50 things to ask: https://dev.swirlai.app/things-to-ask - Swirl vs ChatGPT: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/swirl-vs-chatgpt ### Can AI write my resume for me? It can write a draft, but it cannot know your results. Use it to structure and sharpen the resume; keep the facts, the numbers, and the final judgement. ### Will an AI-written resume get rejected? Not because it is AI-written. It gets rejected when it is generic, keyword-stuffed, or impossible to read. A simple, specific, honest resume is still the best. ### Should I use a fancy template? A simple single-column template is safer than a designed one. Tables, columns, and graphics can confuse applicant tracking systems. ### How to check if a text or email is a scam URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/how-to-check-if-a-text-is-a-scam Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 5 min read. A plain checklist for suspicious messages: the red flags, the links to avoid, and what to do if you already clicked. A scam usually creates urgency, asks you to click a link or share a code, and pretends to be a bank, delivery company, tax office, or employer. Do not use the link or number in the message. Open the official app or website yourself, and call the number on the back of your card or the official site. Scams are not always obvious. The good ones use your name, a real logo, and a problem that feels urgent. The checks below are boring on purpose; they work. ## The red flags - Urgency: within 24 hours, your account will be closed, final notice. - A link that does not match the official domain, or a shortened link. - A request for a password, a one-time code, a full card number, or a photo of your ID. - A request to move to WhatsApp, Telegram, or a personal email. - Payment by gift card, crypto, or a bank transfer to a person. - A job offer that asks you to pay for training or equipment. - An overpayment, a refund, or a prize you did not enter. - Grammar and formatting that feel off, especially in a message from a bank. ## Check the sender, not the display name The display name can say your bank. Tap it and look at the actual address or number. A bank will not text you from a random mobile number. A delivery company will not ask for a card number by text. ## Do not use the link in the message Open the official app, or type the official website into your browser. For a bank, call the number on the back of your card. For a delivery, use the tracking link in the retailer's own app. If the message is real, the official route will show it. ## If you already clicked - Do not enter any more information. - Change the password on the account, and anywhere you reused it. - Tell your bank if you entered card details. Ask them to block the card. - Report the message to the platform and to your local fraud agency. - Watch for follow-up messages that use the information you already gave. ## Where AI helps, and where it does not AI can read a message and list the red flags, which is useful when you are panicking. It can also be wrong. Do not treat a green light from an AI as proof. Use it to slow down, then verify through the official route. Check it, then verify - Scam message checker: https://dev.swirlai.app/tools/scam-checker - AI for daily life: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/daily-life - FTC scam advice: https://consumer.ftc.gov/scams - NCSC phishing advice: https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/phishing-scams ### Can AI tell me if a message is a scam? It can point out common red flags, but it cannot verify the sender or the link. Use it as a second opinion, then check with the official app or phone number. ### What should I do if I sent money? Contact your bank immediately, report it to your local fraud agency, and change any passwords you shared. Do not pay a recovery fee to anyone who contacts you. ### Are all shortened links scams? No, but they hide the destination. If you cannot see where it goes, do not click it. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. A practical way to use AI for an itinerary, a budget, food, and a packing list, and what to check before you book. Give the AI the constraints first: dates, budget, who is going, how you like to travel, and what you do not want. Ask for a day-by-day plan with travel time, a food list, a packing list, and a rain plan. Then check opening hours, prices, and bookings on the official sites before you pay. Ask for the best things to do in Rome and you get the same ten listicles. The difference is the constraints. ## Give it the real constraints Tell it the dates, the number of people, the budget, the neighbourhood you are staying in, how much walking you want, and what you do not want. Two adults, four days, 800 dollars not including flights, staying near Trastevere, one big museum a day, no 7am starts is a brief. Plan a trip to Rome is a wish. ## Ask for a day-by-day plan with travel time A list of attractions is not an itinerary. Ask for each day with morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner, and the travel time between them. Ask it to leave one afternoon free. The free afternoon is where the good trip happens. ## Add a budget Ask for a table with flights, stay, food, local transport, activities, and a 15 percent buffer. Ask what the plan assumes. If it says 40 dollars for dinner, check whether that is per person. AI is optimistic about prices. ## Ask for food and a rain plan Ask for local dishes, a cheap lunch option, a nice dinner, and a market. Ask for an indoor alternative for the day it rains. This is the part a generic list never gives you. ## Check before you book - Opening hours and closing days on the official site. - Whether a museum needs a timed ticket. - The real price of the hotel or apartment, with taxes and fees. - Travel time at the hour you will actually travel. - Visa, passport, and entry rules for your passport. ## Keep the plan in a document Ask for the final plan as a document with the addresses, booking references, and phone numbers. Save it offline. If you change one day, ask the AI to update the rest so the travel times still make sense. Try it in Swirl - Travel app: https://dev.swirlai.app/apps/travel - 50 things to ask: https://dev.swirlai.app/things-to-ask - AI for fun: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/fun ### Can AI book my trip? No. It can plan and draft, but you book through the airline, hotel, or official site. Always pay on the official site. ### Are AI prices accurate? Not reliably. Treat every price as an estimate and check the official site before you budget. ### What is the best request? Give the dates, budget, who is going, where you are staying, and what you do not want, then ask for a day-by-day plan with travel time and a rain plan. ### Is ChatGPT worth $20 a month? URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/is-chatgpt-worth-20-dollars Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 7 min read. An honest look at what ChatGPT Plus gives you, who should pay for it, and when a cheaper AI with memory is the better deal. ChatGPT Plus is worth $20 if you use the newest OpenAI models heavily, need its voice and image tools, or already work inside its ecosystem. It is not worth it if you mostly ask everyday questions, want memory across several AIs, or want to spend less. The honest test is what you used it for in the last two weeks. The $20 question is not whether ChatGPT is good. It is. The question is whether the paid version earns $240 a year for the way you actually use it. ## What the $20 buys ChatGPT Plus gives you the newest OpenAI models, higher usage limits, voice, image tools, projects, and memory. If you use those every day, the price is easy to justify. If you open it twice a week to rewrite an email, it is not. ## The two-week test Open your ChatGPT history and count the jobs you gave it in the last two weeks. Not the messages. The jobs: the essay, the email, the trip, the spreadsheet, the question you were embarrassed to ask. If the number is under ten, a free tier and a cheaper tool will probably cover you. If the number is high, look at what those jobs had in common. If they were all writing, Claude or ChatGPT free may be enough. If they were research, Perplexity may be enough. If they were a mix and you kept re-explaining the same context, memory is the feature you are actually paying for. ## When ChatGPT Plus is the better deal - You want OpenAI's newest models on the day they ship. - You use voice, image generation, or projects heavily. - You already have GPTs, custom instructions, or a workflow inside ChatGPT. - You want one vendor and one bill, and you do not care about the other AIs. ## When a cheaper option is the better deal If your work spans several AIs, or you want the same memory across them, a single-vendor subscription is the wrong shape. Swirl starts at $9 a month, keeps memory you can read and edit, and puts several leading AIs in one conversation. It is not a ChatGPT clone; it is the layer above the vendors. If you only need one job, pick the tool for that job. A student who needs explanations may be fine with a free tier. A writer who needs long-document feedback may prefer Claude. A researcher may prefer Perplexity. Paying $20 for the wrong job is the real waste. ## What to do this week - Use the free tiers for one week and write down every job. - Cancel the subscription you forget you have. You can come back. - If you keep re-explaining the same project, try a tool with visible memory before you pay for another chatbot. - Check the official pricing page before you switch. Only if you use it most days. Start with the free tier and your school's rules. If you need memory across subjects and several AIs, a cheaper multi-AI tool may fit better. ### Can I cancel ChatGPT Plus and keep my chats? Yes. Cancelling stops the next charge; your chats stay in the account. Check the official help page for the current retention rules. ### Does Swirl replace ChatGPT? It gives you several leading AIs in one conversation, with memory across them. It is not a clone of ChatGPT and it does not include every OpenAI feature. ### ChatGPT alternatives for normal people URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/chatgpt-alternatives-for-normal-people Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. Five honest alternatives, who each one is for, and the one question to ask before you switch. The best ChatGPT alternative depends on the job. Claude is good for long documents, Gemini for Google apps, Perplexity for research with sources, and Swirl for memory across several AIs. If you mostly want a free assistant, start with the free tiers before paying for another subscription. Most alternative lists are really model lists. This one starts with the job. Pick the job you actually have, then pick the tool. ## 1. Claude — for long documents and careful writing Claude is strong at reading a long document, keeping the argument straight, and writing in a calm, careful voice. If your work is essays, reports, contracts, or long feedback, it is a good first stop. The free tier is enough to test it. ## 2. Gemini — for Google apps and Android Gemini makes the most sense if your life is already in Gmail, Docs, Drive, and Android. The integration is the feature. If you do not use Google apps, the advantage is smaller. ## 3. Perplexity — for research with sources Perplexity is built around search and citations. If you need current facts, links, and a reading list, it is a better fit than a general chat app. Check the sources yourself; a citation is not a guarantee. ## 4. Swirl — for memory across several AIs Swirl keeps your projects, your people, and your preferences between chats, and puts several leading AIs in one conversation. It also has ready-made apps for study, email, resumes, travel, PDFs, and scam checks. Start with five free messages; paid plans are $9 a month. ## 5. ChatGPT free — for the general case If you just need a general assistant and you do not want another subscription, the free version of ChatGPT is still the default. Use it until it stops fitting. Do not pay for a second tool because a list told you to. ## The one question before you switch What did I use ChatGPT for in the last two weeks? If the answer is one job, pick the tool for that job. If the answer is many jobs and you kept re-explaining the same context, pick the tool with the best memory. If the answer is nothing, do not switch. Cancel. ## What to ignore - Leaderboards that do not match your job. - Best lists with no stated criteria. - Lifetime deals that will not pay for the model calls. - Anyone who says one tool is best for everyone. Compare for yourself - Claude pricing: https://www.anthropic.com/pricing - Gemini plans: https://one.google.com/about/plans - Perplexity Pro: https://www.perplexity.ai/pro - Swirl pricing: https://dev.swirlai.app/about/pricing - Is ChatGPT worth $20?: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/is-chatgpt-worth-20-dollars ### Which ChatGPT alternative is best for students? Start with the free tiers of ChatGPT or Claude. If you want memory across subjects and several AIs, Swirl is the option to test. Check your school's rules before using any AI for graded work. ### Which one is best for writing? Claude and ChatGPT are both strong. Swirl is useful if you want the same memory and several AIs in one place. The best test is your own document, not a benchmark. ### Do I need more than one AI subscription? Usually no. One good tool is better than five half-used ones. If you need several AIs, use a single app that gives you several, rather than paying each vendor separately. ### The best AI for students in 2026 URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/best-ai-for-students Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 7 min read. A practical guide to using AI for study, writing, maths, and research, with the tools that fit each job and the rules that keep it honest. The best AI for students is the one that helps you understand the work, not the one that does it for you. Use ChatGPT or Claude for explanations and writing feedback, Perplexity for sources, and Swirl if you want memory across subjects and several AIs. Check your school's rules before you use any of them for graded work. Students are the group most likely to use AI badly: not because they are lazy, but because the tools are good at producing the answer and bad at making you learn it. The useful question is not which AI is smartest. It is which workflow makes you need the AI less by the exam. ## The honest rule Use AI to explain, practise, and check. Do not use it to write the essay or solve the problem you are supposed to solve. If you cannot do the work with the AI closed, you have not learned it. That is the whole test. ## Study: explain, then quiz Ask for the explanation in two ways: one for a beginner, one with the formal steps. Then ask for a similar problem to try on your own. Turn your notes into flashcards with one question and one short answer. Ask the AI to quiz you one at a time and wait for your answer. Swirl is useful here because it remembers your subjects, exam dates, and the topics you get wrong. The next session starts where the last one ended instead of from zero. ## Maths: the working, not the answer Ask for the step-by-step working, the rule used at each step, and a check at the end. Then cover the answer and do the next problem yourself. If the AI gives you only the answer, ask again. The working is the point. ## Writing: feedback, not generation Use AI to outline, to check structure, and to tell you where the argument is weak. Do not ask it to write the essay. You will have to defend every line in class, and the writing will not sound like you. ## Research: sources with dates Ask for sources with dates and links, and check each one. A confident answer is not a source. If the AI cannot name where a fact came from, treat it as a guess. ## The 30-minute study loop - Five minutes: explain the topic out loud without the AI. - Ten minutes: ask the AI for the step you missed, then close it and try again. - Ten minutes: flashcards or practice questions. - Five minutes: write down what you still cannot explain, and bring that to class. ## School rules and academic integrity Every school has its own policy. Some allow AI for brainstorming and feedback; some ban it entirely. Ask before you use it for graded work, and disclose it if the rules require it. The grade is not worth the disciplinary meeting. Try it in Swirl - AI for study: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/study - AI for school: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/school - Flashcard maker: https://dev.swirlai.app/tools/flashcard-maker - AI maths solver: https://dev.swirlai.app/tools/ai-math-solver - 50 things to ask: https://dev.swirlai.app/things-to-ask ### Is using AI for school cheating? It depends on your school's policy and how you use it. Using AI to explain a concept or quiz yourself is usually different from submitting AI-written work. Ask your teacher before you use it for graded work. ### Can AI write my essay? It can produce text, but you should not submit it. You will not learn the material, the writing may not sound like you, and your school may treat it as misconduct. ### Which AI is best for maths? The one that shows the working and lets you try the next problem yourself. Check the steps, not just the final answer. ### How to summarise a PDF without losing the point URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/how-to-summarise-a-pdf Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 6 min read. A simple method for contracts, reports, and long articles: what to ask, what to check, and what not to paste. Ask for the main argument, the key numbers, the decisions, and the deadline first, then ask for a section-by-section summary only where it matters. Check every number and name against the original, and remove personal or confidential details before you upload. A bad PDF summary is a shorter version of the same confusion. A good one tells you what the document is for, what it wants from you, and what you should check. ## Start with the job Are you deciding, studying, or extracting? A decision needs the ask, the deadline, and the risk. Study needs the argument and the structure. Extraction needs the numbers and the names. Ask for the job, not just a summary. ## The four questions - What is this document, in one sentence? - What are the key numbers, dates, and names? - What decision or action does it ask for? - What is missing, unclear, or worth checking with a person? Then ask for a section map for a long PDF. Pick the two or three sections that matter and ask for a closer summary with page numbers. This is faster and more accurate than asking for the whole thing at once. ## Ask for quotes with page numbers If the exact wording matters, ask for short quotes with page numbers. Check each quote against the original. AI can paraphrase a clause into something that sounds right but changes the meaning. ## What to remove before you upload - Your full address, phone number, and ID numbers. - Client names and account numbers. - Medical details you would not share with a stranger. - Anything covered by a confidentiality agreement. Use a tool whose retention policy you understand. If the document is sensitive, redact it first. The summary is not worth leaking the file. ## What AI gets wrong Tables, footnotes, scanned pages, and legal nuance. A scanned PDF may be read by OCR with errors. A table may lose a column. A clause may be summarised without the exception that matters. Check the original before you act. Try it in Swirl - Read a PDF: https://dev.swirlai.app/apps/pdfs - AI for daily life: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/daily-life - 50 things to ask: https://dev.swirlai.app/things-to-ask ### Can AI read a scanned PDF? Sometimes. It depends on the OCR quality. Check names, numbers, and tables against the original; scanned documents are where summaries go wrong most often. ### Is it safe to upload a contract? Only if you trust the tool and have removed personal or confidential details. Read the retention policy first. For legal advice, talk to a lawyer, not a chatbot. ### Can it summarise a whole book? It can, but long documents hit context limits. Go chapter by chapter, then ask for a summary of the summaries. Check the source before you quote it. ### How to explain a letter in plain English URL: https://dev.swirlai.app/blog/how-to-explain-a-letter Published: 2026-10-26. Updated: 2026-10-26. 5 min read. A safe way to use AI on a lease, insurance letter, medical bill, or tax notice: what to ask, what to hide, and when to call a professional. Ask the AI for four things: what the letter is, what they want from you, the deadline, and what happens if you do nothing. Hide your name, address, account numbers, and ID numbers first. Use the answer to prepare questions, not as legal, medical, or financial advice. Official letters are written to protect the sender, not to be understood by you. AI is good at turning the formal language into a plain list of what they want and when they want it. ## The four questions - What is this letter, in one sentence? - What are they asking me to do? - What is the deadline, and what happens if I miss it? - What should I check or ask a person about? Ask for the answer in plain language, with the exact dates and amounts. Then ask for a short list of questions to ask the sender. The questions are often more valuable than the summary. ## What to hide first - Your full name, address, and phone number. - Account, policy, and claim numbers. - Your national ID, tax ID, or medical record number. - Anything you would not email to a stranger. ## Ask for a reply or a phone script Once you understand the letter, ask for a short reply or a phone script. Say what you want to happen, keep it polite, and ask for the next step in writing. Read it before you send it. ## When to call a professional Legal, medical, tax, and debt letters can have consequences a chatbot cannot see. Use AI to prepare your questions, then call a lawyer, doctor, accountant, or a free advice service. The summary is not advice. ## If the letter looks like a scam Do not use the link or phone number in the letter. Open the official app or website yourself, or call the number on the back of your card. Urgency, requests for codes, and payment by gift card or crypto are the red flags. Try it in Swirl - AI for daily life: https://dev.swirlai.app/for/daily-life - Read a PDF: https://dev.swirlai.app/apps/pdfs - Scam message checker: https://dev.swirlai.app/tools/scam-checker - 50 things to ask: https://dev.swirlai.app/things-to-ask ### Is this legal or medical advice? No. It explains the letter in plain language and helps you prepare questions. For legal, medical, tax, or debt advice, talk to a qualified professional. ### Can AI call the sender for me? No. It can draft a reply or a phone script. You make the call and send the message. ### Can it read a photo of a letter? If the app accepts images, yes, but check the transcription. A blurry photo can turn a date or an amount into the wrong number. ## Common questions ### What is Swirl? Swirl is an AI assistant that remembers you. It keeps your projects, your people, and your preferences between chats, puts several leading AIs in one conversation, and turns answers into documents and charts you can keep editing. ### How is Swirl different from ChatGPT? ChatGPT is one company's AI. Swirl puts several leading AIs in one conversation, remembers you across chats, and can connect to your email and calendar. It also has ready-made apps for study, school, work, daily life, and fun. ### Is Swirl free? Yes. Every account starts with five free messages and no card. Paid plans start at $9 a month, annual billing is cheaper, and you can cancel anytime. ### Do I need a card to try it? No. The five free messages do not require a card. ### Does Swirl remember me? Yes, on paid plans. Swirl keeps a memory of your projects, preferences, and the people you mention, then brings the relevant parts into a new chat. You can read it, correct it, delete an entry, or turn memory off. ### Can I delete what Swirl remembers? Yes. Open Settings, then Memory. You can edit or delete individual entries, add a memory by hand, or switch the whole thing off. ### Do you train on my chats? No. Memory is stored so the product can answer you, not to train a foundation model. The privacy policy explains what is stored and which processors are involved. ### Which AIs does Swirl use? Swirl gives you several leading AIs in one conversation. You do not have to pick one; Swirl chooses the right AI for the question. Every paid plan can reach the same AIs; the plans differ in how much you use, not which ones you get. ### Can Swirl read my email and calendar? If you connect Gmail or Google Calendar, yes, with your permission. Notion is also connected. Google Drive and Outlook are next. You can disconnect an account at any time. ### Does Swirl work in my language? The chat can answer in the language you write in. The marketing site has pages in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. The app shell is in English today. ### Can I cancel anytime? Yes. Cancel in Settings, Billing. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. ### What happens when credits run out? Paid AIs pause until you add a top-up or move to a larger plan. Your chats, documents, and memory stay. ### Is there a top-up? Yes. Paid accounts can add one-time extra usage without changing plans. The rate is shown at checkout. ### Is Swirl for students? Yes. Students use it to understand the work and revise; parents use it to keep up and help without taking over. Swirl accounts are for ages 13 and over, and a parent or guardian should supervise younger students. ### Can I export or delete my data? Yes. Account export and deletion are in Settings. The privacy policy explains what is included and how long data is kept. ### How do I contact support? Email hello@swirlai.app. Include the account email and any receipt ID. ## Pricing - Free: 5 messages, no card required.
